Saw This Guy Yesterday at about 50'

Norm Strung penned an article in the October 1984 edition of Field & Stream magazine entitled "The Best Place to Shoot a Moose". In his estimation, the best place to shoot a moose was in close proximity to a pick up truck.

    Does anyone carry "cross draw"?

Actually, if you research Wild Bill's method of carry, he tucked the Navy Colts in his sash butt forward, but performed a "cavalry" draw, reaching down with the palm out and twisting the pistol as he drew, rather than a reach across the body cross draw. Or so I have read.

    Connecticut lawyer arrested

Just finished my POST (LEO) re-cert in Connecticut; one of the classes was "Licenses and Permits." Nowhere in the statute relative to permits to carry pistols and revolvers will you find the word "concealed". Any arrests for Breach of Peace for open carry or exposing a firearm have been...

Whats your favorite deer hunting firearm and

I've harvested the most deer (and my biggest) with a Winchester Model 70 Featherlite in 30/06. I've also successfully used a Savage 170 in 30/30, a Savage 110 in 35 Whelen and this year took two with the Amish machine gun, a Remington 760 carbine in .308. All were one shot kills at 75 yards or...

    Quickies?

Opening day of the season in 2007. I settled into the stand at 8:30 AM, within 5 minutes I dropped a doe. As I stood there congratulating myself on making a great shot, an 8 point buck walked into view. Two shots later, 8:40 AM and both my tags were filled.

    Winchester 1200 20ga Thoughts

1200 I bought a 12 Ga. new in 1980 with a 28" vent rib, winchoke barrel. I think I paid $125.00. It went bird and squirrel hunting for many years. I used it as late as 1995 as a deer gun in western NY with a 24" rifle sighted barrel, shot a 9 point that year. It's in the safe as we speak, no...

    J C Higgins 66

JC Higgins 66 I have a JC Higgins 66. As stated above, it's a High Standard sold by Sears prior to 1968. The biggest problem with them is the action bar on the right side of the receiver sometimes binds and breaks. You can get a new one from Numrich, but it requires disassembling the whole gun...

Do you remember your first sub moa group?

MOA Bought a 20's vintage Gustaf made 6.5 Swede Mauser that someone dropped in a Bishop stock and mounted with a cheap 4X scope. I ran through a box of FMJ trying to get it sighted in, to no avail. I opened a box of the same weight JSP, changed the target and shot 3 rounds into one ragged 5/8"...

Do you carry a spare magazine?

Do I carry a spare mag? Of course. After 25+ years of teaching both law enforcement officers and civilians in self defense, I have found that 1) most malfunctions that are not operator induced are caused by faulty mags 2) such things only happen when you are using the pistol, not when it's in...
