load out US Army

I usually carry pistol, w/ mag, and two spares. w/ the 1903 that's 25 rounds.

That's the US Army loadout for issue pistols, I figure they came up with that for some really good reason.

I diverge from them on having the pistol loaded condition 1 as opposed to their empty chamber bs.

I also have 50 more rounds in a box usually near by in the bag.

I'm not interested in starting a war just ending whatever the immediate threat is.

When I travel...

I wanted to answer...Sometimes.
In winter I can conceal more gun, Glock 17 +1 is all I need. I don't want to be here someday writing to tell you "I had 18 chances and couldn't get it done" but, in summer with less concealment I usually CC PPK/S and the extra mag combined weigh less than the Glock(loaded). I feel a little lucky in that I've never had reason to want more than I've had. Never brandished to get out of harm's way so the extra mag didn't matter. It's also lucky 18 (C'hai) ;)

Yes, I know the "average" gunfight is within 3-7 yards and about 3 rounds expended. But there's no guarantee you'll be in an "average" gun fight. And as Striker said, there ain't no such thing as too much ammo.

Good point. Sometimes you may have to out-Cho a Cho.

Do I carry a spare mag? Of course. After 25+ years of teaching both law enforcement officers and civilians in self defense, I have found that 1) most malfunctions that are not operator induced are caused by faulty mags 2) such things only happen when you are using the pistol, not when it's in the holster. If the gun malfs I want to be able to fix it NOW, and that means a spare mag. Also, it's not wise to decide what to carry on where one is going or the statistical "2 rounds in 2.5 seconds". Statistics lie.

with my 45, no, but there is always a spare loaded clip, plus extra ammo in the truck. with my .380 YES! with extra ammo in the truck also!

Well when I carry when we are out hunting I carry 6 total magazines for my pistol, when I carry and I am on range duty I carry 2 plus 1. When I get my CCW this month I plan on carrying at most 2 extra mags plus the one in the weapon. Never can have enough ammo, not that I plan to shoot wildly just do not plan on needing more ammo until the fights over. And I especially do not plan on the fight being over cause I ran out of ammo.

Unless I know I'm going into a known high-risk situation/area, I normally carry my 5 shot .45 LC revolver with no reloads.

I figure if I can't get it done with five .45s, I'm having a reeeaaal bad day.

Without a doubt. Why wouldn't you?

Guns are machines. Machines sometimes malfunction. The last place I want to be if my weapon turns into a really crappy hammer is in the middle of a gunfight. I want reloads and I want them now. If you never carry a reload, frankly, I have to question how serrious you are about going home from the gunfight. I know that will stir people up, but that's how I see it.

With my Glock I carry one extra mag. Higher capacity and much higher reliablity. I feal comfortable only having one extra mag, however, I don't think it unreasonable to carry 2 extras either.

On the very rare days I carry a CZ-40P I carry two extra mags.

you carry the spare mag in case of a malfunction or drop out.

NOT for zombies.
Untrue I carry extra ammo specifically because of zombies.

I figure if I can't get it done with five .45s, I'm having a reeeaaal bad day.
What if you have 8 bad guys or get stranded somewhere where you cannot get to more ammo? Granted your having a bad day at that point but atleast you would have more ammo.

What if you have 100 bad guys?

At some point you've gotta draw a line for what you think is really ever gonna happen vs. how much you want to weigh yourself down with ammo on a daily basis.

I try to be reasonably prepared for whatever eventualities I may encounter. I'll readily admit that there are some far-fetched situations where I'll just have to accept that I'm probably screwed and try to go down swinging.

I carry a knife in addition to a pistol and keep an AR-15 with 4 magazines in my car, but there's no way I'll do my chiropractor the favor of carrying more than 15-20 rounds on my person (well, when I carry my .41 Blackhawk, I've got 6 in the gun + 24 on the belt).

infact I carry 2 spare mags some times I have carried 5 just depends but atleast 2 always
