    Man arrested for citizen's arrest

Story is here, which links back to a longer version with video here Briefly: bicyclist has a 40 caliber Glock. Bicycle lane is for bikes only, not joggers. Bike clips a jogger, the jogger pushes back, the bike falls. Bicyclist makes a citizen's arrest. Police arrest the bicyclist. The...

ISC: no right to resit unlawful police entry into your home

The Indiana supreme court issued a ruling that citizens have no right to resist police entry. Important to be aware of (both in Indiana, and any other state that might follow their lead) when thinking about your home defense plans. See...

    saiga rifle conversion - why?

For the saiga rifles, is there a practical reason to add the pistol grip and move the trigger group? Aesthetics I understand, but for a semi-automatic rifle, does the AK (or the AR for that matter) gain anything from the pistol grip?

    questions about ballistic fingerprinting

I saw a thread (http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=587937) that reminded me that I could ask THR folks about things I've been wondering about: TV and movies tell me that the FBI has a database of fired ammunition for all new guns, and when the police obtain fired ammunition from a...

    File under: Software, not hardware

A story of courage and heroism. http://www.hamrosite.com/editorial/lone-nepali-gorkha-who-subdued-40-train-robbers-bishnu-shrestha Briefly: a retired Indian Gorkha soldier is on a train, with a 'khukuri knife (which kinda looks like a sword, based on an internet search). Forty robbers; he...

Why hasn't the market for a good disposable gun been filled?

Not a Jimenez Arms-type Saturday night speciall, but rather something designed to function well for a few uses. Maintain the high standards and quality control, with lower manufacturing costs and a lower price. Sure, there is a market for high performance quality instruments. Hunters...

Question about mandatory indemnity for a Maryland carry permit

I was reading over at Of Arms & the Law about a pending case in Maryland over their carry permits. In looking at the Maryland permit application, I noticed that it includes "I agree to indemnify and hold harmless the person to whom this request is presented and his agents and employees, from...

needed a gun because someone was fleeing?

The video is here. Please keep any anti-cop sentiments off the thread. FYI, this happened in Maryland. Generally, only criminals and police carry pistols in/on vehicles. At the end of the segment, they note that a marked police car was following behind the cycle. The supervisor said the cop...

State Dept has issued a travel warning for Mexico

http://travel.state.gov/travel/cis_pa_tw/tw/tw_mexico.html A lot of good advice in there, but I think they are saying the best way to get out of trouble is to not be where the trouble happens. Many people who would check the State Department/CIA page before traveling overseas might forget to...

    daylight savings - fall back

Hi everyone, Remember - set the clocks back 1 hour tonight, or you'll be early to church/brunch/the range. When you're replacing those smoke detector batteries, think about replacing the batteries in your safes, red dots, and flashlights too. Nothing worse than needing to get a gun out of a...

    article about sonic weapons

I want one, although I imagine it would violate ordinances to actually play with one in suburbia. Is there any reason to think these would not be fully legal for civilian ownership? The only practical non-LEO use I can imagine would be as part of an alarm system - banks, reactors, dams where...

    Philadelphia Lukoil incident

In a surprising twist, When a police officer acted inappropriately and assaults (Internal Affair's wording, not mine) a girl, her male companion who had a gun and a permit to carry didn't draw his gun, nobody was gravely injured, and the lawyers are trying to get justice done. Article...

    shooting from the hip?

Is there a proper way to shoot a shotgun from the hip? Is it all arm strength to fight the recoil, or does anyone actually brace the butt against their hip? I haven't tried it, because I can't think of a way that won't violate rule #1, (keep the muzzle pointed in a safe direction at all times).

    If your lock doesn't work...

I found this story interesting: Besides being a clever thief story, it is a useful reminder for anyone that uses a locker of any kind to store valuables (especially but not limited to guns). For example, think twice about ccw into the gym, and then going for a swim.

What to do when crimes won't be prosecuted?

Didn't see it posted anywhere else. From claycord.com, with the original letter here, and hat tip to http://www.saysuncle.com/ Shocking, but I suppose it is a reasonable approach.

How easy is it to replace a Remington 870 stock?

Howdy, I'm a newbie to owning my own shotgun. I got the chance to try out several today, and really enjoyed the feel of the stock of the Remington 870 SPS-T camo. I don't want to pay that much, and I don't want a barrel that long. My questions include: 1) is this gun more expensive than...

Would your opinons on RKBA change if there was an affirmative duty to intervene?

Reading a blog post about the Somali pirates (http://ace.mu.nu/archives/286003.php ), one reason given for not arming the merchant vessels is that maritime law would then require them to render aid. That got me to wondering: who, how, which, and why regarding opinions for open and concealed...

    interesting profile of mass-murderers

If you read the blog Arms & the Law regularly, you've already read it. http://armsandthelaw.com/archives/2009/04/thoughts_on_act.php He discusses an article (http://www.policeone.com/active-shooter/articles/1695125-Ohio-trainer-makes-the-case-for-single-officer-entry-against-active-killers/)...
