    best powder for 223

Oh ya, Ramshot Tac works very well with 40-55 grn bullets for me.

    best powder for 223

Well I'm not sure if it is a good thing, but maybe I might be able to weigh in on that with more experience than I care to have... ;) The answer is redhead. ;)

223 Rem powder H335 vs Varget

I've been using Ramshot TAC in all of my .223 loads since I first tried it. Good stuff for that caliber, cheap and easy to use. Works great for my 40-55 grain loads.

    Rounds per hour.

I just do rifle, for varmint shooting and a little paper, but I'm still pretty meticulous about doing everything the same. I've never timed myself, but I can load up a batch of 100 or 200 pretty quick. However, at that point it is just prime, charge and seat the bullet. Easy, and quick even...

Cases per hour with your power case trimmer?.....

Well, I got to try out a Giraud trimmer at a friend of a friends a while back... man that thing is the way to go... only problem is I'm way to cheap to spend that much $$$ on a trimmer. However, the Possum Hollow Kwick trim works the same way, just doesn't chamfer and deburr at the same time...

    How tall is your bench?

33.5", but mine might be different than most as I use a wheelchair in the house, so a lot of my stuff is designed to be at a comfortable height from a wheelchair. It would seem to be about right for a sitting position in say a regular office chair as well.

    Minimum temperature for reloading

Leave the powder in the reloading area where it is 40 for a while and you won't have a condensation problem. I expect my ammo to function fine whether it is -10 or 100. I'd suppose then the components would be alright to be assembled in those same conditions. \ I wouldn't think 40 would be...

    cheap .223 powder?

Liking Ramshot TAC in my .223's. Been using Benchmark in my coyote gun because I have a good load for it already and don't shoot that many rounds/ year through it-plus I like that Benchmark seems real stable whether it is -10 or 90 degrees, which is the range I see shooting coyotes. For higher...

    How's Benchmark in 223

Most accurate powder in one of my Rem 700's with 50 grn bullets. I've used it in my squirrel gun with 40 grn bullets with excellent results as well, but switched to TAC mostly because it meters a bit better, is cheaper which is all important for high volume shooting.

Using a Kinetic Bullet Puller on rifle cartridges

40 grn .223 bullets are very hard to pull. 50 grn are even noticeably easier. One trick someone told me was to strike the end grain of a block of wood set on concrete. Seems to have just the right 'whack' (a technical term... ;) ) to dislodge the bullets. Heavier the bullet the better they...

What material for reloading bench top?

I guess if you are just using it for reloading another smooth (the cabinet grade mentioned above) piece of plywood is fine. But I do gun cleaning/repair all on the same bench. The toughness and easy clean up of the laminated flooring is really nice. I was looking for formica but all the...

What material for reloading bench top?

I found a great deal on a couple bundles of Pergo laminate flooring. Some pattern that didn't match anything else the store had. Stuff is great. Tough, yet you can drill through it. Surprisingly chemical resistant. My only regret is I got a fairly dark color, a lighter color would be best.

Question about .223 Rem FMJ bullets

Thanks all. I figured as much, but didn't know much about them, now I know! I figured they weren't going to be nearly as accurate as a Nosler B-Tip, but should be fine for what I wanted... just something to throw downrange. I have my own range and often get family that visits and wants to...

Question about .223 Rem FMJ bullets

Probably a dumb question, but I usually shoot (and all I've ever reloaded) Nosler or Hornady varmint and hunting bullets. Got a bunch of Remington 55 grn FMJ bullets to load up for plinking and just to have... for a rainy day... or something. These are not jacketed on the base of the bullet...

    CCI Primers, anyone seen any?

Midway (which someone said uses Powder Valley for primers) and Natchez have both had CCI in stock in the last month or two. Probably all gone right now, but they are coming in from time to time. Local shop has been the best bet. He has been limiting everyone to 1k at a time, but holding the...

    Taking apart a lead slab?

Ah, you don't have nearly a big enough torch. Trust me, with enough ox/act I can melt it, might burn more gas than the lead is worth, but I could melt it nonetheless, ;). Ripping blade in a skil saw, sawzall, tablesaw, etc. Just be aware that the chips will be pure lead, but good and...

Outside the house reloading caves (pic request)

I'd go for the cargo container. They sell insulated ones if you didn't want to do that yourself. Those things are indestructable. We use them for storage at remote sites, well houses, generator houses, etc. Personally I'd buy a regular 40' one (last one cost me $1050 delivered, with new...

Easy Primer Pocket Cleaning w/ a Dremel

I use the plastic shealthed cable that every hardware store carries. Strip the plastic off of the last 1/4" or so and chuck it into a cordless drill or drill press. You only need a piece that is 1" long or so. I've found one size that is perfect for SR size and another for LR. The cable...

    Ramshot Powder?

I don't know what version it is (its in the other shop) but the latest Hornady version has some Ramshot data. I swear it is only mentioned once or twice, but I have at least seen it in .223.

What clever little things have you "invented or discovered" that you can share?

I keep a lot of empty plastic boxes my 17 HMR ammo comes in, the 50 rd ones. CCI .22 ammo comes in a similar and longer box. They are great for keeping all sorts of small parts, brushes, jags etc in. And, free.
