Berger 80 vld vs. Berger 82 in AR 15

I have been using the 80 vld in my service rifle and thinking of trying the 82g Berger's, anyone try both of these, how do they stack up against each other and what were the loads you were using. Also do the 82g preform any better than the 80g sierra's.

    Loading for ar15

Forget lubing the inside of the case neck and get a carbide expander ball, no need to lube inside case neck with them, saves a step and makes life easy.

What to do when you only have 100 yards for 600 yard load development?

I use lake city brass because it is cheap(500 once fired for $60), and I sort it by year. Different brands of brass have different volumes and can affect pressure and accuracy. With any load you want to work it up just to be sure it is safe. Some brass such as federal is not good because the...

What to do when you only have 100 yards for 600 yard load development?

You have a nice upper there, most hight power service rifle shooters are using 77gn sierras for 200 and 300 yds, and 80gn sierras for 600 yds 24.0 gn Reloder 15, lake city brass, Rem 7 1/2 primers, 77's loaded mag length and 80's between 10 to 30 thousandths off the lands. This is the standard...

Handloading for the AR w/ new brass

I full length size all my new brass for the ar and than do all the rest of the prep work. I have fired about 1000 new cases without sizing with no problems but the necks are not always round on new cases so I just full length size them all since after you fire them you need to fls. I would save...

Resizing 30-06 to 8mm mauser problems

Just finished making a bunch of 8mm Mauser cases from 30-06. I lubed them with hornady one shot case lube, ran them through a RCBS form/trim die, cut with a hack saw, finished with a file, chamfer and deburr, then finished in a FL die. Very happy with the results and you can't beat the price. :D

    Sizing Military Brass

I shoot xtc high power, load 77gr MK's for 200 and 300 yds and 80 gr MK's and Berger's for 600 and 1000yds. The 1000 yd loads are HOT!!!, something has to give, but I had winchester cases with primers falling out on the second loading with standard loads, seems to be a common problem. Just...

Thanks for all the info. Looks like mixed reviews. Think I will try the JB bore paste first.

    Sizing Military Brass

Your freind was talking about a small base die. With my AR I have not found a need to use one, a full lenth die works fine. If you find that they will not feed you will need a small base die but its not likely. With my AR the primer pockets usally go before any other problems show up.

    168 A-Max M1 Garand loads

Just received an order of blemished 168 A-Max bullets. I never used these before but the price was good. Two questions. Is it normal for the tips to be a little loose, can they be fed from the magazine? Also what are some good loads you can recommend for these in an M1 Garand?

    Fire lapping

Does anyone have any experiance with fire lapping a barrel. I have a rifle that copper fouls very heavy and was thinking of trying David Tubbs Final Finish on it. The kit comes with 50 bullets with 10 each of progressivly finer compounds on them. Has anyone tryed them? Did you notice reduced...

What does it take to make "match" loads?

There are a lot of good articles on this site about reloading for competition. You can drive yourself crazy with some of this stuff. For instance, measuring the bearing surfaces of each bullet, there is a lot that can be done to improve the accuracy of your ammo, only limited by the time and...

    .223 AR load

55 grain pills are good for 100 yds but at 300 yds you might want to try a more heavy bullet. For 200 and 300 yds I use a sierra 77 grain matchking with 24 grains of reloader 15 or varget, winchester cases, and Rem 7.5 primers. This is a standard load for AR's and shoots very well in my RRA NM A2

Powder sticking to lube in case mouth?

I use carbide expander balls, no need to lube the inside of the case. For the cases I can not get a carbide expander for I use a dry powder neck lube.
