SW Model 52 w/ plated HBWC

I need you guys to check my thinking about a problem I'm having. I'm loading Berry's plated 148 HBWC over 2.9 grains of Bullseye powder (seated flush) and having difficulty getting 2 different SW Model 52s to cycle/function reliably. I'm getting a good number (30 to 40%) of failure to ejects...

How important is the powder choice?

I've been testing some 9mm loads with 115 and 124 grain bullets. I've been using a fast powder and a slower powder (specifically AA2 and AA5) to try to get the most accurate load for my pistol. I also tried some AA7, but was not happy with the increased felt recoil, so I eliminated it quickly...

Does a handgun bullet leave barrel before recoil starts

I seem to recall reading somewhere that a handgun bullet is still in the barrel when the barrel starts to rise from recoil. In searching for a video of this occurring I came across 2 videos (links below) that seem to show the bullet is long gone before the barrel begins to rise. Can someone...

    QuickLOAD Software

I recently purchased a copy of QuickLOAD and in trying to learn how to use the program I've discovered some anomalies in the auto-pistol cartridges. I have taken the time to run 9 different powder and bullet combos in QL for 9mm, 40S&W and 45ACP and compare that output with the data published...

    Pistol Accuracy

I regularly read 3 reloading forums and I'm not sure where I have read these terms about accuracy, so go easy on me. Anyway I have heard the term "mechanical accuracy" of a pistol, but without any examples to help me understand what I should strive for in accuracy. I have also read that...

    LNL AP Case Feeder Question

I know that some guys like to use a hand priming tool to prime their brass and then run it through their LNL progressive press. Do any of you that do that run the primed brass through the LNL Case Feeder? I'm wondering if that would be a dangerous thing to do.

    Primer Brand Quirks

While at the range today, someone made the following statement. He said that he heard from somebody that once a CCI primer is used in a piece of brass that you will have to use CCIs in that piece of brass, until it wears out or is lost, because all other brands will then be too loose, and will...

Crimping Lead Bullet w/o crimp groove

I have seen some lead revolver bullets offered for sale that do not have a crimp groove. Would this style bullet still be roll crimped, which would deform the bullet, or would it be better to taper crimp this bullet.

    9mm rejects

Is it typical to have some rejects after gauging a run of 9mm ammo? I'm using my Glock barrel as a gauge and get a few rejects out of every run. I just ran 425 pieces and ended up with 6 that failed my barrel gauge. Is this normal, or should I be looking for the reason and trying to correct...

Anyone heard of a 32 Largo caliber?

At the range today someone had an old Spanish revolver that was marked as 32 Largo caliber. He said he found it while gutting an old house in Macon, GA. The range owner's cartridge reference did not list this caliber. I searched the web via Google and found one Spanish (I think) language site...

    Penn Bullets

See this thread for background: http://thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=477463 Mr. Palermo PMed me and indicated he had some .360" dia. bullets available from a recent run, and indicated he would get them shipped Monday, OCT 5 if I wanted them. I ordered them and he did as promised and...

    38 S&W Bullets

I'm looking for a supplier of 130 to 160 grain, .360" diameter lead bullets to reload for a 38 S&W revolver. Does anyone know where such a bullet can be purchased? I have found one source (Penn Bullets), but their reputation appears challenged per another thread on THR...

Problem w/ Rem 38 spcl brass

I have never tried to reload Rem OF 38 spcl brass before today, but experienced a problem I didn't experience with Win & Starline OF brass. The brass was all trimmed to the same length and resized in a Hornady sizing die. Mouth was chamfered and deburred. Bullet used was a .357" dia...

    PMC and PPU Brass

I came into some free 9mm brass with the headstamps PMC and PPU. Is this stuff worth fooling with as far as reloading it? Thanks.

    38 Spcl brass length

Yesterday I ran 300 38 Spcl thru my Hornady LnL AP, and approx. 10% would not case gage. They would not start into the gage and I surmised that the case bell was not being completely removed by the separate roll crimp die. I cranked the roll crimp die down another 1/8th turn and ran the...

    Group Size????

I'm new to the reloading game and am not certain what is considered an "accurate" end product. I shoot a Glock 17 with standard, non-adjustable sights and would like to know what kind of group I should expect shooting off a cheap MTM plastic rest at say 10 to 15 yards? Keep in mind that I am a...

    38 Spcl bullets tumbling

New to reloading! I loaded a few 38 special target rounds with 2.7 gr Bullseye under a Berry's 148 gr DEWC and the bullets were tumbling and tearing teardrop shaped holes in the target. When the bullet would hit the target you could see a piece of paper being torn from the target and flying...
