I agree the 5 1/2 has the best symmetry. It's also long enough for a good sight axis, but not so long that it get's in the way in the field (especially cross-draw).

I gotta agree. My Blackhawk 357 has been my field gun for the past two years, and it really looks it. The blueing doesn't have the durability I expected, but I do love the gun. My future Rugers will be stainless.

Seems to me a sling in the HD situation actually complicates retention if the confrontation gets up close and personal -- it just gives the BG one more thing to grab if he's trying to disarm you.

I re-discovered the joys of plinking when I got my Ruger 22/45. Definitely not a waste of time! Controls are similar to my other semi-autos, so it makes for good, low-cost practice. It makes for a great intro gun for new shooters that you are introducing to the sport as well.
