I think Jim is spot on. The VP is Colts verified proof. A-1's started with the 1924 guns around 700K. The numerals only serial number without pre or suffix on an A1 style frame would only be right on an early Super 38. Clawsons books can give you idea of a date range of the slide.

Actually that gun has most of Armand's signature features including hand fabricated extended thumb safety. Squared trigger guard. Hand cut checkering. Armand rarely put beavertail grip safety's on his guns. He typically left the arched MSH although like any other smith...
45-90
My partner was going to have his Davidsons takedown 45-70 converted to 45-90. Then they came out with the 45-90 takedown and he bought one. Loves it. We just picked up another 45-70 TD and it will be going to either Turnbull, Hunter or Clay for a 50-110 conversion. We both shoot original...
Rifle
It is mine. Bought it from a reitred FFL whom I have bought 5-6 guns from. No SN I can find. Crown proof marks. I will try to get pics of the proofs.
salesman
I would have thanked him for his "enlightened opinion" then said let me look at them.
Go to any of the major customizers websites and see how many Kimbers they use as base guns versus Colt and SA. That says it all to me.
My $.02
I picked up a neat little 243 at the OKC show this weekend. Not familiar with them. Barrel marked Alpha Arms Dallas Texas. Receiver marked ALPHA 1. Anyone familiar with them? I cant find anything other than a little bit in the blue book.
C&S
They had a nice booth at the shot show. I have been wanting a C&S Pathfinder or older Behlert chopped Hi Power. One of their gunsmsiths who does the Pathfinders let me handle one and detailed the pros and cons. Nice guys.
BHP
Unless he has moved Bill Laughridge and Cylinder & slide is in Fremont Nebraska. They do good work. But I like knowing who is working on my gun. The action works is a one man operation. Don Williams is still my choice.
BHP
Mike, dont scrimp if it is a keeper. Don Williams http://www.theactionworks.com/ about $95 + shipping costs.
I have a hi power he did and another being done. You wont regret it.

101
The 101 traded within 24 hours of hitting GA. Got a Merkel 47e coming in.
These guns were owned by a wealthy Oklahoma oil family. I have this 61 Colt python 99% in the box that was given to me by the former son inlaw.

Kudos mr Kudu. It is a 101 Quail special 20 gauge "Grand National Quail club" limited. About 100 made for the original members of the GNQC around 1986.
He also had a "couple of old 410's and a 12 gauge". One was an average 870 410 VR. the other 410 and the 12 were these. No cheating by...
Guys help me with a problem. I am helping a friend sell off a few nice estate shotguns. One is in a Winchester hardcase with combination locks. You guessed it. Its been 5-6 years since he has even looked at the guns and he has forgot the combo. I have run the numbers from 000 - 999 w/o success...
bbl change
still curious. looks simple enough. Wondering about headspace etc. is this something that can be done in the garage or should I send it to a smith.
