Guys help me with a problem. I am helping a friend sell off a few nice estate shotguns. One is in a Winchester hardcase with combination locks. You guessed it. Its been 5-6 years since he has even looked at the guns and he has forgot the combo. I have run the numbers from 000 - 999 w/o success (sore thumbs though). anyone know any tricks before I ruin the nice Winchester O/U case?

I'd take it to a locksmith. Sometimes they can pop the lock without damaging it, whereupon you can reset the combination with the case open. Worth a try, anyway... and if you take it to them, and they need only a few minutes to open it, it shouldn't cost you very much.

I had to do that once for a buddy's Bulgie AK. It turned out to be in the low seven hundreds. I think I watched a couple of episodes of CSI while I did it.

I say try again! :D

A decent lock smith will have it open in less time than it would take you if you did know the combo!

I had to take a lockable guitar case to a locksmith once because I couldn't remember the combo...

I then promptly removed the lock from the case...

Darn, Tom!! You already own at least one example of every good shotgun ever made. Let somebody else have a chance.....

Tom Held,
I like the way you think. :D

I agree with Locksmith.

Humor me if you will. If this is the 4 digit combo, and has never been re-set...

2, 4, 7, 9
1, 3, 7, 5

Let's just say factories often use the same combo's. It used to be funny when a sales rep would just hand me a combo locked case and I was able to open it.

Understand this was a very very tight knit group...

One fellow used 3,0,0,6. It was a no brainer when he came in all smug, and said "open it". I did.
I knew the wifey had gotten him a 2,5,0,6. :p

For real security we didnt' use combo locks, Special "briefcases" that required at least two different keys , non duplicates, carried by two different folks.

I sometimes used one that was soft sided, metal on the inside of course, 3 keys, and non of us three were to ever ride in the same vehicle, same airplane, or ever be together - except to open that case and after opening, at least one person left immediatly.

case

20 minutes and $16 later the locksmith had it open. It contained this:

OUCH! What an eye-sore!

Please send me that so I can hide it in my safe so no one else has to look at that abomination.
:barf:

:neener: :D

101

Kudos mr Kudu. It is a 101 Quail special 20 gauge "Grand National Quail club" limited. About 100 made for the original members of the GNQC around 1986.

He also had a "couple of old 410's and a 12 gauge". One was an average 870 410 VR. the other 410 and the 12 were these. No cheating by going to our website.

Very Nice

Yep, looks like a 101 Quail Special or 101 Pigeon (XTR). Quail Special might be marked 1 of 500. Looks like a B carved/checkered stock with exhibition wood. Very nice gun, should be easy to sell.

Now, once again, what else is in the closet. Inquiring minds want to know.

Thanks. Tom

101

The 101 traded within 24 hours of hitting GA. Got a Merkel 47e coming in.

These guns were owned by a wealthy Oklahoma oil family. I have this 61 Colt python 99% in the box that was given to me by the former son inlaw.

Dear L-rd! I can't stop drooling over the Python. And I am a S&W man...

What is this recent fixation on my part for blued revolvers? I was always a stainless steel man until I bought my S&W1917. Now, I see a blued revo in good condition and I want to take it home.

Howdy
Don't doubt the Python is a 1961. Easy enough to look up the number.

Not sure that is the "right" set of grips for that year.

Wyo

grips

I was under the impression they are correct but I am not certain. Dont know of any reason he would have changed them. Anyone have any input.
