brass cleaning

I was getting some old cans ready to get scrapped the other day and saw a split case on the corner of my bench. Just wondering, anybody here save it to scrap out?

Has anybody used a Thumler's Model B rotary tumbler? Its a bit pricier, but is all metal construction, including the drum. The Reviews on Midway are highly positive.

Has anybody tried recycled finely crushed bottle glass or glass beads for cleaning brass? Either is used in blast cabinets, but what about rotary or vibratory tumblers? Wet or dry?

Today I tumbled some brass that had some pretty deep scratches. Hard to measure but you could certainly feel them with your finger or nail. After tumbling for 2.5 hrs I cannot tell which cases had the scratches. Just how much brass do those little rods remove anyway??
