“Classic” revolver

Generally lean twds Colt dbl action but the safes are about equal with Smiths. So it's a tuff question. The two that probably get shot/hunt/carried the most are 1980 4" 629 and a switch brrl (4&6) .38 Diamondback.

I went with less common the last time, but really I can't think of anything much more "classic" than the Model 10 Smith & Wesson. Smith & Wesson made and still do make, millions of them. They went to war, they armed cops, and crooks, storekeepers and homeowners. They rode in holsters, coat pockets, glove-boxes, and sock drawers. They were used by experts and by people who never fired them. They served them all well.

10-2, 4" barrel

Classic? There are so many. Since this is only revolvers.... Model 10 Smith... Colt's .45 Peacemaker.... Colt Police Positive Special... Webley .455.... S&W 1950... and of course the Ruger Blackhawk.. I think of my Model 28 .357 Smith- pinned and recessed- as a classic too.

I don't have page after page of dozens of mint condition collector grade guns like Drifty and Bob, but I do have my trusty .38:

Good little stopper. S&W M64. I practice with it a lot. Nowhere near as impressive as some who've posted here, but it's mine and I like it.

Beautiful! A classic, NO-BS Fighting Revolver. I carried one very similar (M65 loaded w/ .38Spl+P) for many years on duty, never felt at a disadvantage.

From the standpoint of aesthetics, for me a 3-1/2” S&W Registered Magnum 357 a-la George Patton’s “killing gun” as he called it, or both the K-Frame 2” Model 66 with round butt and 4” Model 19 with square butt really stand out. Another classic is Skeeter Skelton’s favorite 357, the 5” square butt Model 27.

Of the four, my “grail gun” is the long out of print 3-1/2” Registered Magnum from the 1930’s. I’ve got the others.

My idea of the classic revolver, as sold, is a four-inch Model 19 Smith & Wesson revolver. The, blue, pinned barrel, recessed chambered variety.

With a bit of after market work, I would prefer the same revolver with a round butt and a barrel just long enough to mount a full length extractor rod (about 3.5 inches).
