You don't know what happened off camera. I've never seen the show, but surely SOMEONE there wanted something from it. You have a whole camera crew on site, plus guides (I'm assuming). I doubt it went to waste... but it could've. I see where it sends a bad message to viewers.

I believe Alaska, like other states, has laws about wanton waste.I don't know if they apply to bears.Caribou would know.

Easily could have carved off the "good eating" meat and then left the rest of the carcass for recycling. What you actually see and hear on TV, after editing, is like newspaper articles: Always something left out.

Agree. They're making a TV show and are after maximum entertainment value. There's no way of knowing what goes on when the cameras are off. There's a LOT more people there than the ones you see on-camera.

Think about American Pickers. You really believe Mike and Frank drive all over the country and only buy a few items at each stop? I don't. I believe that when the cameras are off that's when the REAL money and buying happens, and they make deals for TRUCKLOADS of stuff from a lot of people.

Doesn't apply to brown bears or grizzly. Fish eating brownies are pretty rank.

From the AK game regs;

Field-to-Freezer Meat Care

Preparing meat in the kitchen After you have killed an animal it is your responsibility to salvage all of the edible meat, in accordance with the Alaska regulations. You must salvage all of the edible meat for all big game animals except brown/grizzly bear, wolf and wolverine; see the regulations for an exception to this rule for black bears.

Im sure most of Alaska is along the same lines as here in my game unit, where we have to salvage the meat and are able to leave the skin and head if were using a Subsistence registration ticket for Bear's.

A Sport ticket and a fella only need salvage the hide and skull, if thats what they want, but get them sealed before leaving the Game unit for commercial tanning.

Ive never seen this show, but since Im on the inside of one, I can say makeing Some shows are easy, we get that 12 minutes that count in one day, though rarely, and often we take 4 days to get an episode done, when were on the move,or longer due to traveling and not traveling due to crappy weather. Crappy weather has actually turned an easy shoot into 12 days of bordom and frustration...

That invasion into my privacy would not be worth it to me. (Do you ever get any kids in your area asking for an autograph?) ;)

a slong as the law was followed, which being filmed and all, I'm sure it was.....I have no issues with whatever choice the person makes in regards to salvaging the meat from a predator, often known to not be the best tasting of critters. Some people take issues with people like me killing priaire dogs and leaving them lay. What might not make sense at first glance often does make sense after learning more about the situaiton
