I saw a Colt/CZ 40 on a table once at a gun show years ago. Thought the grip angle was too steep and awkward to get a decent hold.

It shared table space with that other great Colt boondoggle, the All American 2000.

Now I am wondering if Colt licensed any more of it's products to foreign manufacturers,

I believe Colt had the parts for their 'second' generation '51 navies and 3rd Model Dragoons
made in Italy for them in the early '70s. Colt then had the parts finished and assembled to their liking here in the U.S.

A few more.

The big and small of it. Colt 1917 with the early composition Coltwood stocks and a .25 auto.

A 1949 U.S. Air Force contract 'Arctic survival kit' Woodsman and a matte finish 1990s Colt 22.
The Woodsman is actually like new despite my best photographic efforts to dispute it.

A 1963 .38 Special Colt Cobra with a 5" barrel atop a 1954 .32 NP Colt Courier.
The Courier with its alloy cylinder and alloy short frame is the lightest Colt I have.

Does anybody know about these stamped logo'd grips. Your cobra is the first I've seen like this

Lots of variation in the style and quality of the plastic used in the Coltwood stocks used from 1949 until the mid 50's.
1954 is the latest I've personally seen on a straight gun.
Coltwood was used on all of their models from the Officer's Models on down.

Coltwood was pretty much hated by shooters to the point that by 1955 it was discontinued (when Colt was sold), however,
the Woodsman line did not use up the supply of the last style black plastic stocks until around 1960.
Why did they use it?
Colt was suffering from large post war 1911 order cancellations (no more big Government money) and decided to use their plastics division
to increase profits on the resumption of the civilian line.

Also interesting is the Cobra with the Logo in a different spot, interesting.

Not just Cobras. Here's a pic of three Officers Model Match.
From left to right - a 1959 .22 Magnum - a 1956 .22LR - and a 1956 .38 Special.
Note the (mostly hidden) rampant pony on the .22LR.

Colt just did not throw anything out, whether it was a pair of Coltwood stocks found in the bottom of a parts bin
or an out of place pony on a sideplate.

I still have a morbid desire for a AA2000.....but I want the metal frame version and all I ever see at shows is the polymer variant.

I don't know for sure they were original to my Cobra which was made in '56. Can't say I liked them which is why they're in the spare grip box now.

‘I have one brand new stashed in the safe that is buried.

Worse financial type decision I’ve made. I bought it when they came out because I thought that it would become a collectors item. When in all actuality no one wants to admit to ever buying such a turd.

I don't know much about them, but they look like a hideous mistake. I heard somebody prominent in the gun world, can't remember who, say that it was just a total piece of crud pretty much but there were only like 10K made, maybe 10K too many but even so, that has to make them highly collectible by some I would have to think.

You never know, some video game could come out with a Colt 2000 in it and they will hit the ceiling....

Nice! I have one of it's brothers-in-arms-

I put the (rather hideous and uncomfortable) grps away for safekeeping with the box-

Yes they look like they would be rather uncomfortable, it would have been cool if they inset or recessed the medallion further into the grip and did a clear epoxy over them or something. But they look more like a commemorative decoration piece than anything but I'd have probably done the same thing.

Here is a colt:

Oh wait, a pistol?

OK:

Regarding the knife, it was a gift from a buddy before my first tour in Iraq. He carried it in Desert Storm and also in Bosnia. I found it too big for regular use so I bought a Cold Steel SRK and the Colt mostly sat in my quarters and I took the SRK on subsequent tours. On my first tour to Afghanistan I was sure to bring the Colt just so that I could say it had been in 4 theaters. I have two boys, I'll let them sort out which one gets which some day long into the future.

I love that knife. I would absolutely live to find one. I'm actually on the hunt for something like this, I have a 6 month old nephew named "Colt" and I'm trying to find something for my brother that will be sentimental to him that he could pass to his son one day. If I was a lil more financially flush I would give him a nice SAA or 1911 but for now that ain't gonna happen. One day maybe....

Sweet knife though, if you have the specs I love to know the model name and type of steel if you happen to know it.....

I just saw one for sale in the last few months, lemme look. It wasn't the exact model but the next model over and looked pretty close.

And as for the SRK, doh! Yes, Cold Steel, I've been looking at the Gerber Strongarm all month.

OK, just checked, this is a model CT27, there is one now on eBay for $85 (link).

I always regret not buying a 1917 45acp when the prices were reasonable, which of course was many years ago.
I saw a clean-looking one at a show recently with $700 on the tag. Played with it for a bit, timing good, original finish.....oh, crud- its got a bulged barrel!

I pointed this out to the seller. He said, "Huh, ya, look at that," wiped it off and put it right back in his display case.

I shook my head and walked away.

Back when Wilson used Colt base guns. This one from the mid 80’s.

Oh, now that’s one that I get that warm fuzzy (wish I’d have gotten one back then) feeling about. Even more especially the grips…lol
