03 Springfield problem

I bought my first 03 Springfield several weeks ago. I previously posted that I had a problem with the safety. Given the responses I got I don't think I told ya'll enough about the rifle.

It's a sporterized springfield. Whoever did the job did an excellent one. It has an aftermarket safety which is stamped "mark 11". When I put it on safety (one click left standing upright) it will not fire. When I flip the safety to the right it will fire.

The problem I'm having is when the safety is engaged and I lift up the bolt the safety disengages like a camming action.

I've never handled a springfield and know very little about their safeties, especially the aftermarket ones.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Is this the safety that's on your '03?

Yes that is the exact one.

It sounds like something isn't quite right with the shape of the safety at the tip of the cylindrical part where it locks the bolt to the shroud, or maybe the safety just isn't fully engaging.

I'd either order a replacement and see how it works, or (better yet, imho) get a model-70-style safety installed.
