One warning, people in San Antonio are friendly. Catches a Californian off guard.

There's a few places where I've found myself sitting, exchanging real conversation with someone I did not know five minutes ago. San Antonio tops the list.

dont take this personal just some humor

you know the difference between a Californian and a damned Californian?
Californian comes down and takes a camera out
a damned Californian comes down and takes out a couch from a u haul truck.:neener:

glad to hear your getting out of that ANTI state.

Going to visit my Daughter in Austin next week. She's going to graduate school at UT.

I like that Texas like my home state of Florida doesn't have any state income tax either.

I married a Los Angles girl when I was in the Corps, when I got out I refused in the late 70's to live in California. In those 33 years, not once did I ever question my decision. It was one of the best decisions of my life.

I like the free state of Arizona, I am sure you will like San Antonio, I do.

Good luck, and God Speed.

Fred

When I first moved to Alaska from NY the fact that I could walk into a gun shop and buy a handgun with just a drivers license amazed me. No permit? No explaining to a judge Why I need this gun? you will like it believe me.

Better hurry - it's rumored the 'govenater' is going to balance the state budget by imposing a tax on everybody leaving the state!

:D:D:D

welcome

Welcome, but please leave California behind. You can always go visit Austin if you get homesick.

Moved to Tx from the PRK over a year ago, I don't miss that place one bit. and there is no way to describe the feeling of going to the range with an AR and not having to worry about the laws.

KingoftheHill - Congrats!! And good choice in San Antonio. I fell in love with the prettiest young cowgirl for a while in a honkytonk bar in that town many years ago and have a fond memory of the landscape too.
No kidding - folks in Texas are different - Good different! Heart like you don't find too many places, except Georgia. :)

jakemccoy: Whatever you do, don't hate me because my state is more beautiful than yours
You think California, that place overrun with crowds and foriegners is beautiful? You need to schedule a vacation in the Northwest ,son.

Born in Sausalito and raised in Tiburon. Still own a house in Santa Cruz but sold my father's $12,500 (1952) house in Tiburon for you wouldn't believe how much!

Retired from a Santa Clara you know what company at age 47, moved in with my now wife to Alameda.

Three years later were were married and hauled ass out of the state, selling her house at that time. Neither one of us has had to work a day since. Thanks California, and KMA!

I haven't even BEEN in California for ten years now, and the last time I was there I got a ticket for pulling my empty trailer faster than 50 mph on I5 no sooner than I'd crossed the Oregon border. I was on our last trip to retrieve our stuff. Talk about the nice place to be FROM.

Native Perspective

I was born here and other than a little time in the PRK while serving in the USMC, I have never lived anywhere else. I have had the luxury of visiting 40+ states and there are only a handful of places I would consider "on par" with the People, Cost and Freedom.

SA is my second favorite city just behind Fort Worth. Dallas (where I live) is way overrated and has lost its Texas culture for the most part. Houston is just too darn big for my taste, but it is a great town.

Here are some of my local haunts in SA that are must do's.

Chris Madrid's - Good food and coldest beer in the State
La Fogata - Outstanding food
Mi Tierra - Outstanding food
Gruene Hall - Old school music
Wurstfest - New Braunfels (coming up in Nov)
NIOSA - look it up
Comal River
Guadalupe river - Tube below the dam at Canyon lake
Pedernales falls
Canyon Lake

Get a nice 200 yard rifle and take aim at some pig ears. Millions of them in the State and they are good eating too.

PS. The city is Spurs crazy. Sort of on the same level as Okies are with Zero U. Get used to it.

PSS. Austin is a bunch of liberals so if you get homesick, just spend a day in that S hole of a city.

One warning: It is H-O-T right now and unusually dry, so you are entering at a time of extremes. It will get better.

Welcome to the Republic of Texas my brutha.

I did the same. Traded kalifornistan for the beauty of 4000 table gunshows and machine gun shoots (Tulsa).

But be advised. 100 degrees in kalifornistan desert is not the same as 100 degrees with 80% humidity. Sometimes I think they must be taking those readings from underwater.

Oh yeah, you have to treat yourself to a Bohanan's filet when you get there.

Texas looks a lot like California. Sure, you can have guns and the like, but the Texas spirit has been replaced by people not from or about Texas. It's Texas in name only.

There are but a million and one different things a person who supports the, "Screw you and your odds, we're doing it MY WAY" philosophy would view as a fatal flaw within this state.

such as mandatory vaccines, screwed up schools, failing infrastructure, and hell.. the alamo isn't even sure how to report its history anymore.. Could be because it's been turned into a BS memorial that's less about Texas and more about money, but you know..

can't blame a guy for trying to make a living.

There aint really any place left to run from your crappy situation. Too many people everywhere.

Congratulations on moving to a free state. California is pretty, but the politics suck and there's too many anti-gun leftists here to suit my taste.

Well, there is, but we're not talking. Too many liberals spreading their pus filled infection to what used to be nice places to live.

I have a cousin who is 78 who was born and raised in Idaho and graduated from the U of I. She has lived, worked and is now in retirement along with her second husband in San Rafael just across the bay from San Fransicko. I call her once a year just to say Hi and I asked her along with her husband who was on speaker phone what they thought of Nancy Pelosi and Barbara Boxer. They got upset because they knew where I was headed and commenced to tell me they were the greatest Congress People they have ever had to represent them. They even commenced to tell me I was crazy for even having a gun in my house. I have a daughter and her family in Lancaster north of LA in the Air Force and have bought a house this year. I want to get them out of that insane asylum as quick as I can and it drives me crazy to see what it does to people that live there. Nobody is minding the store in that state, the caufers are empty, half speak no English, and the Zombie population is not getting any smaller. So I can sympathize with anyone that wants to leave that place and never come back.

I got my first gun in West Tx in 1995 , a Colt series 80 . Then a Ruger .22 pistol . Then a Russian SKS . And many more guns... Then moved here in Houston and many more guns. Thanks Texas for the right to bear arms.

I just hate the summer heat though. If only the climate is like Colorado, so much the better. But nothing is perfect .

Someone hasn't read the THR Rules....NO CA Bashing.

Im not CA Bashing... Im just happy to get out of here....

CA has a lot of good things going for it, it just happens to be none of those things interest me :)

JOe

I have a bro and nephew in LA and a bro in San Diego. The one in Sn Diego is like me, collected several firearms in his own right. YEs, I hate bashing Califonia and if i do , I keep it to a minimum and in private if at all possible. It s the politicians who run it thats the problem.

Adding to this, San Marcos/New Braunfels is great for floating the river(Medina Lake and Lake LBJ are also places near and dear), A Place to Shoot is one of my favorite ranges, and Floore's Country Store has some great food and even better tunes.

And for some good grub, try the BBQ Station, Texas Pride BBQ, and the Josephine St. Cafe are some of the best.

Welcome to San Antonio, and avoid the 281/1604 intersection at all times.
