went to the range to sight in the new scope on my new 10-22. had a blast. tried all different loads. everything was going fine till i tried Remington Yellow Jackets. first off they didn't want to load. next when they did load into the chamber the rifle wouldn't fire them on the first try.....so i would pull back the charging handle and push it foward. then they would fire just fine.............anyone had this same problem with Remington Yellow Jackets?

Is it an aftermarket barrel?

My GM/A&B barrel has very tight tolerances, and doesn't like some of the cheap ammo if it's even just a little too wide in diameter.

When the yellow jacket fails to fire the first try, pull them out and see if the firing pin is striking, but too weakly to set it off. This is what happens with my barrel - the round is too wide, doesn't make it all the way in, pin doesn't strike hard enough to set it off.

The fact that they aren't feeding properly isn't good either. Some rifles simply don't like certain kinds of ammo. Mine doesn't particularly like the Remington, and positively hates the Federal and Aguila, while tolerating the Winchester, and loving the Wolf and Eley match stuff.

If possible, trade the remaining yellow jackets to a friend for something you can use.

Comes with the cal

It has been my experience that a lot of auto feeding guns in .22 are very picky about the type of ammo they use. I was an RSO at a local range for a while before I moved away from that area and in my time there I saw a LOT of 10/22's amung 100's of other types of .22's. Everyone has their own favorite ammo and everyone pretty much knows what brand/load not to shoot out of their weapon. A friend of mine spent some good money on some nice match ammo for his Walther P22 and EVERY round mis fed. Any other brand in that gun fed just fine.
I think that the FTF is just an annoyance that comes with .22's. I would just stay away from that particular load/brand. Find something you like and something the gun really likes and stick with that.

I have had nothing but problems with Remington ammo in my rimfires. Most of my friends complain about Remington's rimfire ammo too. If you take a look at Rimfire Central, you will see that almost nobody shoots Remington rimfire for the same reasons you stated. it is nothing to worry about and can almost be expected with Rem's Rimfire. If other ammo was working fine, just stick with that ammo and have a blast.

IIRC, Ruger used to include a caution that non-round nosed ammo might cause some feeding problems in the manual that came with earlier production10/22s. Don't know if it's still there, as I haven't needed to buy one in a good many years. May or may not still be applicable. Seems to me that the crux of the "problem" had to do with the feed lips in the magazine and the truncated cone shape of the Remington "Yellow Jacket" and "Viper" bullets not being compatible for some reason.

While I don't use a lot of either type (YJ is HP; V is solid) I do keep a small hoard of YJs because, for some unknown reason, both my Brno ZOM 451 and Marlin M-60 will shoot them into groups only a tiny fraction larger than what they'll do with the hideously expensive "Match" SV ammo or the excellent Aguila SV (IMO the biggest bargain for consistently stellar accuracy out there), and I generally prefer to use HVHPs to hunt small game with them.

When I got my 10/22, I bought...no exageration...about 20 different brands and variations of .22LR ammo. I seemed to have the most trouble with Remington. I had new Rem rounds where the bullet was literally falling out of the case. Rem had the worst groupings and most flyers. I also had poor performance from most Winchester and Federal. Mines shoots best with Wolf Match and SK, Aquila, and PMC Zappers. CCI Minimags are pretty decent too, would be good enought to hunt with.

I have an older BC bull barrel for one of my 10/22s and it has fed fine for most low end ammo excpet Rem Thunderbolts. I'm pretty sure the chamber is standard and not target or Bentz. Some of the ammo it eats won't chamber in some of my target .22s.

Don't be surprised to see conicals not feeding through a semi reliably. You done quite a bit already on ammo that will feed. Just stay away from the Rem YJs unless you want to tinker with the cartridge.

I gave up on Remington Rimfire ammo a long time ago. Even if it fed and fired (never had many feeding problems but LOTS of FTFires), it was never at all accurate in my guns. There's tones of other .22 ammo out there, just move on to something that works. Many are finicky, in one way or another.
