Hello everybody I am picking up a new 10-22 soon and was wondering what any of you guys did to yours any feedback greatly appreciated. Also are the bmx 25 round mags any good? P.S. my better half mentioned to me today that xmas is going to be here soon enough and asked for gift ideas. I reload for 30 06 38 special 357 magnum I have a Complete AR 15 lower no upper yet or mags sadly so any gift ideas would be great as well thank you

wait, so you want us to tell you what to ask for from your better half for x-mas? ok. bravo company spr mk12 mod 0 upper. at least...that's what's on my list.

Trigger job, check out Brimstone, even his Tier 3 is vastly superior to the factory trigger. Other nice upgrades include auto bolt release (included in Brimstone trigger job if you go that route), a sighting system other than the awful factory sights, sling and studs, and mags. I also like to install an aftermarket VQ extractor and a KIDD bolt buffer, but they aren't essential.

thanks guys

thank you guys for the ideas as I said I do appreciate it fellas

I got a stainless/synthetic 10/22 about 15 years ago and never did anything to it, until about 2 years ago I got the itch.

I bought a hornet products "plinker special" drop-in trigger assembly, to lower the trigger pull to a nice crisp 3.5 lbs. I really like mine...check them out here. For only $90 it is a great deal. They have other options too, all the way down to 2.5 lbs, but I thought for a plinker that 3.5 lbs would be perfect. It cut my trigger weight in half probably.

My buddy bought a 10/22 more recently (a few months ago) and the trigger was horrible...way worse than my stock trigger ever was. I don't know what the lawyers have done, but it was long, heavy, not crisp, just terrible. If yours is anything like his, a new trigger will be the absolute FIRST thing to do.

I also bought a tapco intrafuse stock, along with a vertical foregrip and bipod and sling. Put a 3-9x32mm Simmons scope...it works pretty decent.

I have one of the Ruger bx-25 mags. It works fine, but I have had fewer jams out of my butler creek "steel lips" mag. They are usually the same price (+/-), the only disadvantage is they have the clear plastic which isn't as aesthetic to me, and they cannot be disassembled to clean, however I have never really needed to clean mine after probably 5 or 10,000 rounds.

I really, really am excited about the new 10/22 takedown. Add a low power sight option and it will a great general purpose weapon, easy to transport, easy to back pack, easy on ammo cost, easy to assemble, easy to shoot, yada, yada, yada.

Volquatson "exact edge" extractor, they all pretty much need one to function reliably with the "banana" mags, Ruger BX included.

Be the best ~$12 you've ever spend unless you like clearing stovepipes.

If you want better accuracy than 1-1/4 inch 5-shot groups at 50 yards, you need to put another barrel on it. With a good barrel, you can get 1/2 inch groups at 50 yards.

Try the factory barrel first. Some do quite well when you find the right ammo.

The first mod I did to mine was put in a Power Custom matched hammer and sear. That greatly improved the trigger. The next thing was an auto bolt release.

Tec Sights http://www.tech-sights.com/ruger3.htm plus a Power Custom hammer and sear, replaced the proctologists' mag catch with a aftermarket one, Volquartsen extractor (eventually, when I got tired of one jam in thirty), filed the hold-open catch to release after you pull the bolt back, longer charging handle, made a sling out of a converted Sterling sub-machine-gun one, some Butler Creek Steel Lips mags, turned a brass sleeve to cover up the threaded muzzle. Does all I want.

I just bought my first 10/22. I still like my Marlin 60 better. It's just a carbine for plinking. I picked up a couple of bx-35's and they've ran fine. I only put about 500 rounds through them.

We'll see after I fix the trigger and add tech sights. I'll also give the Volquartsen extended charging handle a try. I always wanted one for my marlin and never saw one.

The only other "mod" I have planned is stock replacement. I can't complain, I got a stainless display model for the same price as the basic carbine. The only real issue was surface rust on the charging handle...which I want to change anyway, not to mention it wiped right off with a bronze brush. I really don't like the plastic stock that came with mine so I found someone that had a wooden take off. It should look unique since it will have a black receiver, stainless barrel and wood stock. I found it odd that my stainless model has a stainless barrel and black receiver. A butler creek folder would be handy for tossing it in the truck, but I'll give the wooden stock a shot, first.

The main reason I posted:

If I could buy just one mod for my 10/22, this would be it:

Actually, this is two mods in one package. Still, it easily fixes both the awful stock trigger pull and the odd stock bolt release.

I'm not looking for a target quality setup, just a plinker. Is that kit really all one should need for a decent trigger?

I want to buy a 10/22 but every time I mention it to my wife she says that I have a hold on gun purchases until "after Christmas"....guess I have to wait and see what Santy Claws brings!!;)

I got my 10/22 3 or 4 years ago and according to the internet  I am one of the few who never had a problem with the stock extractor. I will say that you definitely should get that volquertesen or Clark customs hammer (you can do the auto bolt release mod yourself and save a few bucks) the stock trigger pull was VERY heavy. Would advise you go for a red dot or low power optic unless you upgrade the barrel

I just recently put that barrel in it and plan on switching to a 1-4x. As far as the ruger bx mags, they are good to go, just cant use speed loaders.

The BX 25 magazine is pretty decent, takes a while to load but just the price you pay. I found with mine that for the first few mags I only loaded around 23-24 rds after that full load of 25 works great. Today I received a 50rd mag from MWG out of Miami, read the instructions for how to open and load it very easy and loads much faster than the 25rd. If you want to waste lots of ammo for the 10/22 add BMF ACTIAVATOR, every full turn results in 4 rds being fired, you can imagine how many shot you can put down range. With a decent tripod (I use one made for cameras) you can control the gun and put just about every shot on target.
