Ain't happenin' no more lol. :uhoh:

Oh I can understand the Swiss rifles going up to a degree they always were a superb rifle for the surplus market.

But I was taken back by a just recent search for Mosin's on gunbroker, run of the mill 91/30's with sticker shock at $300 or so? Now I hadn't watch them in over 3 years but dayummmm!

Just 3 years or 4 years so ago they were $100 to $175 and available EVERYWHERE now classic arms, aimsurplus , J&G and others all say "out of stock".

So I guess the Russian embargo is the main culprit ?, because I am sure surplus Mosin aren't being sent to Ukraine and the middle east

The surplus buyers market just sucks now, I guess I'll just think about getting a Ruger scout rifle instead of any more military surplus rifles for now.

When something like that hits the market jump in and order first. Otherwise when they run out the price will rise.

I guess it is time to sell mine then. :)

I paid Bud's $155 for one 2 years ago.

The wonderful thing

about both of these rifles is that if they break or you can't find ammo they make great fence post drivers.

Funny enough, I was looking through some old receipts and noted several of my Mosins that I bought for $59 and $79. And the whopping expensive $150 paid for a U.S. Westinghouse manufactured M1891, with English Contract stampings on the stock.

Ah, the late 1990s, with Soviet and East German Makarovs a-plenty, AK's as low as $200, stacks and stacks of Mosins. Oh, and there was that Finnish Luger (all matching with unit disc) I picked up for $500, Luger p.08 for $450, and ViZ p35 for $225. Those were the golden days, you bet.

Yep. Got 2 Chinese T53's for $30 each.
Hex Ruskies (91/30) in great shape for $69. It was hard not to fill the house with them.

I purchased an Ishapore Enfield for $179 AND got a free South African 7.62x51 battle pack with purchase from Aim Surplus several years ago... Also purchased 9,000rds of 7.62x25 for $540.....

At one point Century ran a sale on K31's, IIRC you had to buy 5, but the cost per rifle was about fifty bucks.

I wish I'd bitten then, instead I waited a couple years and ended up paying $119.00 each for three of 'em.

I think they're still a bargain at $350, even if the buttstocks were used as beaver food. :D

My past military bargains were a new in the box Norinco SKS with all accessories/bayonet for $89, and two beautiful Swedes, an M96 Mauser for $89, and an M38 Husqvarna short rifle for $79. Plus lots of cheap ammo at the time for all.

These purchases were all made at the gun shows formerly held at Yonkers Raceway, just a half mile or so outside of NYC's rules and regulations.

Remember, it can get worse as the value of the dollar is questioned . Every seven years since the last century there s a manifactured recession as Fed Reserve manipulates the flow of money . The last time was the 2008 recession. So expect one this year.

They were a nice buy back a couple of years ago when you could pick one up for about $100 with really cheap ammo. There's better options nowadays for the same or slightly higher price.

Yes, I own two Mosin Nagants, wish I was able to snatch them for $69.99 but I wasn't old enough to buy firearms in the late 90's.

It's an interesting point. All of my Mosins were purchased in the '07-'08 time period when they were around $70 each.
These days, if I were looking for a bolt action rifle, and I saw a Mosin in the 200 range but just down the used gun rack there was a Ruger American in a common caliber for around the same or slightly more, I'd really have to think long and hard. The Mosin is no longer the "no brainer" that it was even only seven or eight years ago.

I'm 30yo right now. I bought all my Mosins for $69.99 from AIM Surplus around 2007-2008. I too, was too young to buy guns in the late 90's. In 2000, i was only 15 years old. It really wasn't all that long ago that they were cheap.

Now if only I had been able to buy SKS's for under $100 back in the 90's. THOSE were the steal of a century!

WERE?
Why the past tense?
Taken too literally - they were great rifles.

That doesn't exclude that they continue to be great rifles... :) Just not the bargains they once were. But anyone could have seen it coming, and many of us did so we stocked up!

The lesson - don't pass on good bargains.

K31s are still 299 at aim... thats not a huge climb and the rifle is truly superb. I just got one and it looks fantastic.

yeah really was a main point of my thread here. Oh I know we can all go back to whatever year or decade and say " well back in the day I got it for" regarding whatever firearm in question but it was the Russian Mosin changes in price that I am seeing that took me by surprise seeing how many are out there. They are always a crap shoot as far as accuracy at least with a Swiss K31 you are almost certain to know it will be accurate. I am just not willing to pay $300 or more for Mosin that may wind up shooting minute of building. Although the Finnish Mosin wlll probably be accurate almost always.

Mosins from other countries from what I saw on GB the other day haven't risen as much as Russian ones which I guess is due to the embargo on Russia.

Around my area they've definitely gone up in price, but not that bad. I see plenty of 91/30's in the $170-200 range and nice M44's for $275-325ish. It's really a shame they're going up in price, thanks to our Government trying to act as world police.
