I plan on doing target shooting at 100 yards with a .17 HMR. What power scopes should I be looking at?

Do you want to see the holes thru the scope? If so, get something in the 6-18 or 24x range.

Yes, I would like the ability to see where the holes are being punched. I thought a 24x would be the answer.

My neighbor has a .17hmr and keeps his scope on 24x. He sees the holes in standard targets just fine at 100 yds. and he also uses those targets that show an irradescant yellow ring around every bullet hole. Those are way cool. Can see those with about 15x.

min. 18 power to see the holes at 100 yds, also, you need to make sure your scope is parralax free, to at least 50 yards, or less.
anything else, is going to bounce your reticles all over at 100 yds, since most scopes don't zero out prllax to at least 100 or even 150 yds.
Your best bet of all would be a fixed power scope. like a weaver 24 or 36 x.

I'll have to keep that in mind rangerruck. Thanks for that tip. I didn't even think about most scopes only going out to 50 with the parallax free.
