Long range
Have been shooting & instructing "precision" rifle for 30 years. Our rifles, ammo, technology and optics have come a long way in that time frame. I shoot everything from .223 to 50 BMg's at long ranges 1000yds and beyond with the big boomers like the 338 Lapua, 416 and 50's. There are a lot of bone stock rifles nowadays coupled with the right ammo, and good optics will get the job done well at 1000 yds. Never go cheap with your optics, I use Nightforce on all of my serious long range rifles. I have shot a lot of the Schimdt and Bender products and Zeiss and they are all great optics, but for my money the Nightforce is a great value for the money involved.
I currently use a Rem 700 .308 SPS in a Accuracry Int'l stock with a nightforce 8-32X NSX scope, you will also need 20 moa bases for your scope if you are going to 1000 yds. My 700 will shoot sub MOA at 1000 if I do my job. The Remington is a out of the box rifle, no mod's. I have a little over 3K in it total. I have shot a lot of "high end" rifles and a lot of "bone stock" rifles. Sub Moa is Sub moa regardless of what platform is delivering the ordnance. If you are serious about the .338 Lapua, then I would look at the AR-30 and the Savage rifles that they have out now.....I own and shoot .338's in both of them and they are solid performers and a good value for the money IMO.
