A fellow reloader bought dies to load .40 with and didn't realize he bought 10mm dies, or didn't think about the difference. I explained to him that at the very least he probably won't be able to bell mouths or crimp. Other than those two obvious issues, can he use the resize die or should he just see if he can exchange the 10mm dies for the .40's?

There is no difference. I have both sets because I don't like to change the settings. Dies are cheap and it takes time to reset them so just buy a set for both.

Same here. My Dillon dies say ".40 S&W/10MM" as do my RCBS dies.
I have two sets of Dillon .40/10MM dies in my RL550 tool heads-one set for .40 S&W loads, and one set for 10MM loads.
Same with my .38Spl./.357Mag. loads..
I haven't got to my .44's yet.==Don't shoot enough .44Spl. to have two sets---YET..Bill.

Well ya, my .40/10mm die's are obviously for both. But the die set he bought, Lee, isn't 40/10mm, just 10mm. He called me a while ago and reiterated that he can't bell the mouths, and the seating die won't adjust down enough to close or crimp if the powder die did bell. I also have the Lee set but mine is labled 40/10mm.

At first, I thought he just didn't know how to adjust the dies correctly and then it hit me, I think he may have bought the older, or first 10mm dies manufactured before the .40 was put into production? I'm going to run by his house tomorrow just to verify his claim, but I think he bought the older 10mm only set. I suggested he either let Lee know about the issue and see if they will take care of him, or take them back to the shop that sold them to him and see if they'll exchange them for the 40/10mm set.

My Lee dies say 40/10mm on them.
