Greetings.
I am fixin’ to load some 10 mm with 180 gr. JHP’s. Of the several powders listed on Hogdon’s website, I have only HS 6 and Titegroup on hand. HS6 shows a wide range of loads between min and max while titegroup shows a span of 5.4-6.0.
My previous experience loading 10 mm is with 155 gr. JHP’s. and HS6.
Also, what does SIE JHS stand for in Hogdon’s load data?

Both of those powders are a little too fast to get maximum performance out of 180gr 10mm. The HS-6 might work slightly better but either will work fine. You are not going to be able to get the higher velocities without going to a slower burning powder.

Sorry, I mistyped JHC. After looking further, I do have some Auto Comp powder. How about that?

I think that might be slightly better than HS-6. Load a short ladder of both HS-6 and Auto Comp and see which you gun like best.

If you are looking to cycle the action and put a bullet on the target they are all going to work.

If you are looking to get maximum velocity out of a 10mm, there are better options out there but Autocomp will get you pretty close.

Hs-6 is a little on the fast side for 10mm. On the plus side it works best at or near max charge. I’ve used it for 10mm. Not ideal but it was satisfactory.

Titegroup will make some rounds but is not ideal, although I wouldn't hesitate to use it for low velocity plinkers.

AA#9, Longshot, Power Pistol are good choices for maximum velocity if you can go shopping and have that desire.

Tightgroup is a powder I like for cast bullets because it peaks quickly to help obliterate bullets and works well in short barrels. I would never use it for loads I wanted or needed velosity or power from. When I hear 10mm I'm thinking bear or some other type of defence. In those situations a max power load with a high quality bullet would be my choice. Power pistol may make great power but due to the flash and flames that also would not make my list. I wont speak to autocomp or hs6 because I haven't used them.

HS6 and Auto comp are essentially the same. Either is a far better choice for 10mm than Titegroup which has no use in 10mm (way to fast) JMHO There is little room for error with TG

HS6 is NOT to fast for 10mm??
Per Hodgdon
"In pistol, 9mm, 38 Super, 40 S&W and 10mm Auto are some of the cartridges where HS-6 provides top performance."

I load a lot of 40 S&W and HS-6 gives me the best loads for accuracy and performance. I tried TG and did not like it at all, accuracy was not there and not much spread from min to max. I would say IMO this would apply to the 10mm cartridge as well

I have tried many, but not all powders.

In my most humble experience, HS6 provides at or near top speed and always ties or best in the accuracy department.

Very lucky that HS6 works in 9, 40, 45, 38, 357, and 44.........what is not to like? ONE powder for all of my handguns?

Don’t have a 10mm but have used both Tightgroup and HS-6 in 9mm to 45 Colt. In 9mm it wasn’t bad but HS-6 beats Tightgroup hands down in everything else for me.

I’m working up some test loads with HS6. 180 gr. JHP’s sit pretty deep in the case and 8.7 grns. of powder leaves very little “air”.

Keep a eye out for 800X and Blue Dot, during a run on powder these can be the last powders on the shelf.

AA#9 is my single choice for 10mm. I'm able to load bullets longer than normal because I'm using a S&W 610 revolver. I simply can stuff as much AA9 in the case as it can take and won't get into any pressure problems. 200gr XTPs for me in the revolver and my 10mm Carbine.
