$11.99/50

My dad once went into an Academy Sports long before we had one around here. He found Monarch 9mm FMJ for 4.99/50. He called and I had him buy 20 boxes. He bought all of the 30-30 they had out at 7.99/20. All of that ammo is long gone. Deals like that just don’t get forgotten easily. Congrats on your score.

I won’t talk about my pallets of shotgun and pistol ammo from the bait shop. $250 a pallet is just ludicrous. I nearly broke the frame on my Nissan getting it home one pallet at a time. 2 pallets, bought out remaining stock, old man was retiring and selling out. Found ammo he had forgotten about. Ultra max reman. There were probably 100 boxes of 25acp. My grandpa still has some of that.

I have bought out stockpiles of ammo before. I used to buy 9mm at 5.99 per box of 50 but would not trust ammo that cheap these days. You can't trust .22lr these days no matter what price you pay for it.
I paid 9 cents per round for most of this stack of 5.45x39. It's not even imported these days.

The next time the wife mentions my ammo stash with a semi-kidding roll of the eyes, I am showing her this picture!

12 bucks a box isn’t bad today, let’s hope that trend continues. :)

Stay safe.

It's only 17,280+ rounds there are ammo stashes a lot larger that this. I only bought this much because it was the only round I couldn't reload at the time & had to have enough to last the life of all the guns I own for me & my kids. Remember this is only one caliber, I reload for all my other calibers.

I think $12/50 for 9mm is about as good as its gonna get, once domestic steel cased production is well underway, depending on what happens in terms of elections. Pandemics. Emergencies, etc.... I could see $200/1K but right at the moment, if you need 9mm this would be the way to go. I have been seeing $240/$260 per 1K lately with free shipping......

During the pandemic I remember $0.36/rd seemed like a deal....

The wooden crates and stenciled spam cans look far more impressive than my shelves of stuff (Especially the tiny boxes of .22’s). There is something to be said for the industrial look of a big stack of imported center fire ammo.

Just before the pandemic Walmart had their CorLokt 30-30 on sale for $10. I only bought a single box because I had to ration my fun money at that time. I kick myself every day for not making an exception and clearing them out.
I bought a couple boxes back then of .270 and .243 for around $12 a box IIRC. Like you, had I only known what was coming down the pike… :(

Stay safe..

About 7 years ago I moved to a different town. I wasn't sure this would be a permanent move so I rented an apartment (on the second floor of the building) rather than buying a house. Five years later I bought a house and moved again. I won't show photos over the internet but let me assure you, there is a downside to stockpiling ammo. That stuff isn't fun to move!

Cheapest it's gotten here in Central Florida has been $14 a box, but most is still $18ish. I'm still hoping we can get down to $12 in store then I'll get back to buying 2 or 3 boxes every visit at the store

I actually bought Monarch 115 FMJ at Academy for $3.99 years ago. I wish I had bought more. I also bought Blazer aluminum for $5.50. I should have bought more of it too.

One time my son-in-law split a case of the $5.50 ammo. Not sure now but I think it contained 20 50 round boxes. The checker scanned the box and the total for everything we had purchased seemed really light to me. When I checked the receipt the scan had charged me for only one 50 round box of ammo. I pointed out the error to the checker and she thanked me saying "I really appreciate that". I wondered if any mistakes came out of the checker's salary.

Some years ago I bought 2k primers at Sportsman's Warehouse along with several other items. When I got home and went through the receipt I found that each brick of primers was charged as a 100ct sleeve! A friend of mine in WA state at the time said he had the same thing happen to him at about the same time which leads me to believe it might have been a systemic issue throughout the SW computerized inventory system. As primers were less than $30/1000 at the time, I lost very little sleep over it. :alien:
