Anyone load 9mm 115 gr gold dots
with accurate #7

I also have some rmr 124gr jhp/mpr to try with aa#7

Anyone use this combo ?

I've been loading 9mm with AA #7 from a LONG time now. I think it's the perfect 9mm powder. If it'll shoot out of a 9, odds are you can put #7 behind it.

I load Hornady 115 HAP over 6.8g of No7 and it is a very accurate load. Sport Pistol beat it out accuracy wise in my 4.5" XDm...but not by a ton.

speer shows starting at 8.6 gr for the 115gr god dot , seems that is starting off a bit warm

Yeah...it does. Do they give an OAL? My load data with those HAP rounds is with them seated pretty deep, 1.080". The Western loading guide has a load for a Nosler JHP with an OAL of 1.077" and a max of 7.6g. That same projectile, same OAL, they show a max charge of 8.3 grains in their "+P" chart.

So...unless that projectile is seated higher, 8.6g is a stout load.

How does it burn at the 6.8 is there much unburned powder ?
I ask because 6.8 is below Hornady's starting load ?
I am curious as I can't get out and shoot or Chrono any new loads until the pandemic issue blows over most everything is closed near me so I have tons of time to load up samples ,

AA7 is a slow powder with a similar burn rate to Blue Dot. I have loaded some 9mm with 8.0grs of #7 behind a 115 gr Remington JHP. They chrono'd at 1,163 fps average from my Glock 19 which is a relatively moderate velocity for a 9mm. They did have a consistent STDEV at 9.24 fps which in my experience anything 12 fps or less is quite good.

The advantage of a slow burning powder is that you can get higher velocities at lower maximum pressures. AA7 was developed by the Israelis for use in their SMG 9mm ammo. I would guess you will get a sub 1,000 fps load with a 6.8gr load behind a 115gr bullet. The Speer 115 gr Gold Dot is an excellent defense bullet used by many police departments. Speers standard pressure load has a MV of around 1,220 fps. For the cost of gold dots you would be better served with a defense level load closer to the factory velocity and reserve light sub 1000 fps loads for less expensive cast or plated bullets for punching holes in paper targets.

The Speer data starts at 8.6 for the 115gr gd , the 6.8 was a poster above and Hornady 115gr hap

Interesting. Personally, I don't have the Hornady Book...but I've always found their load data to be a bit slim on the actual FPS side vs what I see with my stuff.. My actual chrono data, with a 115g HAP, and 6.9g of No7, seated at 1.080" gave me a real average of 1132 fps, so 10% over what the manual you stated. Now granted, who knows what kind of pistol they used and what distance their testing equip is...and what brand their testing equip is...so there's that to take in mind.

It's good to know they condone going all the way to 8.6g with No7, perhaps I'll mess with these more this summer.
