have looked everywhere , online , this forum and several manuals for load data on 140 gr. lead bullet using bullseye powder . Now using 4.3 grs. . Cycles well but would like to see some data to back up my load. 40 cal. S&W. M&P . Have several other powders if no data is confirmed for bullseye.

Handloads.com doesn't list 135 gr lead bullet for Bullseye powder, only 135 gr JHP with 6.8/7.6 gr start/max charges. I think that is too much for 140 gr lead bullet.

2004 Alliant load data has data for 155 gr lead bullet you can reference for 140 gr lead bullet (You can use load data for slightly heavier bullet so you should be able to work up to 4.9 gr with 140 gr bullet) - http://www.thehighroad.org/attachment.php?attachmentid=182147&d=1364769070
Laser Cast 155 gr Lead Bullseye OAL 1.125" Max 4.9 gr (1,051 fps) 33,100 PSI
BTW, 2004 Alliant load data lists 6.7 gr max for 150 gr JHP bullet. ;)

What powders do you have?

For me, faster burn rate powders like Bullseye/Red Dot/Promo produced more snappy recoil for M&P40 and I prefer W231/HP-38 and slower burn rate powders. I really like Herco and BE-86 for accurate 40S&W loads - http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?p=9645513#post9645513

Have bullseye. universal, clays, hp-38, titegroup, power pistol , red and blue dot , unique .
Red Dot/Promo will be snappy unless you go light on the powder charge - http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?p=6509911#post6509911

I don't recommend Titegroup for 40S&W as it burns hot and violent and particularly not with lead and if you are having neck tension/bullet setback issues.

W231/HP-38 can produce light 9mm like loads to mild but accurate loads.

Many like Unique/Universal/Power Pistol for 40S&W. I like Herco/BE-86 for 40S&W - http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?p=9645513#post9645513
