Hey all,

I (think I) scored a deal on a previously-loved EOTech 552 (?). It is the AA version with the NV button. I bought it from an Army guy who sold it to me because his unit was switching to ACOGs. It has some gouges on the hood, nics and scratches all-over, and there is a bit of sand/dust from the "sand-box" in the crevasses and screw-holes. The good news is that it seems to hold zero just fine, and the glass is in pretty good shape except for a handful of light hairline scratches (probably from using a tshirt or similar to clean it).

Manufacture date is July 2004, would it be worth it to send it back to L3 to get it refurbrished for $58? What exactly do they do to the unit?

Here are some pics:

So, did I do ok?

Thanks,

Sounds fishy. The .gov doesn't just give stuff away.
Indeed they don't. We had CID pick up two of our BDE Supply SGTs in the last year for selling military property (ACOGs in this case). They are currently in prison.

If he sold it to you, and he had half a brain, it "probably" wasn't on the property book. The army has only recently started to do a good job on accountability for these things.

It is also possible that it was his personally owned optic, and that he didn't care for what the army issued him. I have never been issued an Eotech before, nor have I seen them on any weapons of the guys I deployed with. We either used ACOGs, Aimpoints, or iron sights.

It doesn't have "US Gov't Property" or anything else like that stamped on it, but I understand (now..) that there is the possibility of him selling uncle sam's stuff. However, he did claim he was selling it to fund the ACOG he was going to buy..I guess he seemed honest enough :scrutiny:

Any info on getting one of these refurb'd?

Thanks again,

I emailed him before posting this and I have yet to hear back. Do they normally take over a week for a response?

Thanks

I would imagine the previous owner bought this as a personal optic for his duty rifle. I have many good friends in the military, and my last roomate who was in the Marines told me they can order accesories/optics on their duty rifles even while he was in Iraq. Some of them would swap stocks to Magpul's as long as the unit allowed it.

Either way, you got a good deal on it!

Eotechs are not very common in the military. Most guys don't want to shell out the money to buy their own optics, as long as the personal modifications do not effect anything inside the rifle, so no titanium firing pins or the like. Or it really is military issue that wasn't on the property book. Either way you got a great deal.
