Nothing wrong with that either. I’m pretty sure few of us using rimfires would do so if the regs were different. I would be using my 12 ga deerslayer in the shotgun zones and my LR308 everywhere else.

Understand completely.

Just had a group of about 20 walk right out in my pasture behind the house. Too far for my SOCOM (about 220 yds. out). Well...not too 'far' but farther than I have it sighted in for. Had to grab the 7mm-08 this time. I am happy to use whatever kills them and am grateful to others who help reduce their numbers.

Well, I have several coming to my feeder right now after dark. But, it's just too bloomin' cold and wet out there to mess with a hog. I WILL get around to it. :D

Going to be even worse for you and me the next couple of days, but it will get the hogs moving. They can hunker down for a day or so...but they have to get up and eat when cold weather persists.

Good time to go after them IF your accommodations permit. I sure wouldn't go out in bad weather (for long) on foot or in an open stand. Fortunately I have an enclosed box stand with a heater that I can go to at one site. Us 'Old Guys' got to be semi-comfortable when hog hunting.

Of course...the easiest thing is just to shoot them from your back porch, as I did this afternoon.

I drop them cleanly with 223, 75 grain Hornady BTHP match, broadside.

Out of curiosity, do you use the version with cannelure or without? Does it make a difference in the terminal effect?

Not sure- I'll send you a SKU if I can find it. As far as terminal effects, the critters go straight down, usually get a banana shaped exit hole.

Well, it's supposed to warm up dramatically by the end of the week. I could sit out there, got a heater in my box blind, but if I shoot it, I gotta get it on ice. I could probably just hang it, considering how cold it is, but that'd be something I just ain't used to doin'. We're supposed to get a light freeze tonight, though.

Thing that REALLY puts me off is how wet it is around here. When it warms up, the skeeters are going to play. You just can't win for losing. I DO have a thermacell though.

Hey, but it's going to be very windy too. :D
