I'm thinking about a rifle in .17 Mach 2 for target plinking out to 100 yards. The CZ453 with the single set trigger is looking awfully inviting.

What's the current school of thought on the Mach 2? Is it going to be around long-term or is it doomed to follow in the footsteps of the dodo bird? If I buy a Mach2 rifle and it goes belly up, how difficult (expensive) will it be to get the rifle rechambered in .17HMR or .22LR?

Thanks.

from what I understand all you need is to rebarrel for the 22lr. I went with a Savage 93R17 and couldn't be happier. 17HMR will last, 17m2? not sure

17mach 2 is picking up steam. It was stagnant for a while, but the supertuner target shooter guys picked it up, becuase it is a one hole shooter. Now the hunters have picked it up because, inside of 150 yds, it only drops 2 inches, and unlike the 17 hmr, it does not explode small game. lastly , it is half the cost of the hmr, and best of all, you can fire 20 grain solid, fmj , 17 aguila or pmc through a mach 2. I now have 3 of them, Sooo sweet!

These are several diff groups shot with diff rifles at 50 yds. they are all 5 shot groups, except the last pic, shot a couple of weeks ago, when the weather started turning cold, wet, windy, and rainy. they are very nice for the crap weather. Right now, for the lower and mid price rifles, marlin seems to make the tightest chamber, followed by n.e.f., but you still have to tweak/tune your rifle to get rid of the mysterious mach 2 flyer.
