Just picked up a full size springfield m1a. I was going to load some 175 grain FMJ with 42 grains of 4064 behind it.

I have heard some mixed views about using 175 grain bullets in the m1a.

Has anyuone used these bullets with something close to this load with this powder?

How did it work out for you?

realmswalker,

U.S. M118 LR Sniper ammo uses a 175gr bullet (175SMK), and this ammo is used in many M14's in Iraq and Afghanistan. Your load of 42 grains of 4064 should work just fine.

Just make sure your loadedrounds will fit in your magazine and will cycle. Otherwise you will have a single shot rifle after you clear your FTF jam.

We used the 173gr bullet in our M21s, and I still us it in my M1a...good bullet. I load them with 748, though. Your set-up should be fine. Make sure to full-length resize and head-space gauge your brass. In more ignorant days, I didn't know to do this and had some issues.
