I'm thinking about getting a .17 for some long range varmint shooting. I am partial to Leupold optics. However, for the price of a Leupold scope, I can buy a second .17. So, what I am asking is what is the best scope for a .17. I do not want to spend more than $150 or so on the scope. I looked in Cabelas and the BSA Sweet 17 and Cabelas Pine Ridge 17 scope caught my eye since they compensate trajectory. Do you have any experience with these two scopes? Also, what other scopes, if any, do you fancy on your .17? I want a scope of at least 3-9 power, but I prefer something with more power.

17HMR Scope

Just answered a post of yours on the 17HMR ammo. Look at the medium priced Bushnell scopes. That what I have on my 17 and it's given me good service. These sub calibers don't have much recoil.

I have a Simmons AETEC 3.8x12x44AO on this Marlin 17VS, and have a Bushnell Banner 6x18x50 AO on another. They were both just a little less than $150.

Here is the Simmons...

I will probably end up getting a Simmons. Where did you get your's? Can you provide me with a web site that has the AETEC for under $150? Thank you.

It's just a local shop that has them. They are $140. If I catch him in the right mood, he will drop the tax if I pay cash. Other times I have to cough it up (8%).
