I've a Uberti 1860 repro that need to be at half cick to free the cylinder for losding. at first it did this but very shortlyaa9after about 2 weeks) it stopped freeing the cylinder. When I pull the hammer back about half way to the halfcock position the cylinder will spin freely, but pulling it further to halfcock position the sear? pops up and lockes the cylinder.
My questin is how do i fix it.I am able to dissasimble it entirely and reassemble it but can bot find the problem.. any idea?

The part you call the sear is the "bolt" or "cylinder stop." The revolver is out of time. Possible causes are a broken trigger, a worn or broken cylinder stop, or a broken half cock notch in the hammer. I suspect the first, but cannot be sure without seeing the gun.

Thanks Jim, I think it's the trigger notch problem. I have completely disassembled the pistol and examined each part. I put it back and took it apart several times. with the cylinder off and pulling the trigger, I can watch the bolt drop when the trigger is just shy of "halfcock" and can hear the "click when the hammer reaches "halfcock" and the bolt ups back up. I was thinking the spring wasn'tt aligned reight, hence the numerous time of disassemble /reassemble, That's what I have found, just unable to determine what the problem is. Dvae

You should be able to see a broken out hammer notch or a broken trigger. A worn cylinder stop might not be obvious. You might also try spreading the cylinder stop arms a bit (carefully!) as the stop might be sliding off the hammer cam sideways, a common problem with improperly made and fitted SAA type revolvers.

Thanks Jim..

I had looked at that spring a few times ...and even thought to do something to it as it seemed to be missing the job.. I'll try what yuo advised ,,thanks Man...

It Works.

Thanks again Jim, I took it back down and bent the spring you mentioned re assembled and it would half cock for a split second the release I did it again and now it works....Good call Dave
