Hi all,
Took the 1860 out today for the first time! traded for this gun about two months ago,it's a Uberti made in 1972.had to fit the bolt, the arbor was short so i had to fix that, strip and refit the grip and polished all the internal parts.
took it out and shot 24 rounds thru it without a cap jam or misfire, cyl turned free without cleaning, cyl. gap was set at 4 thousands and stayed there.have to say I'm very happy with this pistol!
I couldn't have done all that work without you guys, this is a great site and a good bunch of fellas!
One question, does anyone know what size nipples this takes?Pietta nipples will thread in but are a little loose. I'd like to get some treso nipples as these have some battered spots from dry firing, thanks,
Todd

Uberti & ASM share the same nipple threads: 12X28. I have used Ruger Old Army nipples in my ASM 1860. My Uberti Remingtons take the same nipples. One note of caution: you might have to shim out or sand down replacement nipples so as to get perfect (almost) contact with the hammer face. I like the Track of the Wolf SS replacement nipples. They take the Remington #10 nipple.

With a gun that old, you would be better off taking one of the nipples to your local full-service hardware store. They usually have a board that you can match the diameter and thread pitch to.

Thanks for the replies guys. I took the cyl. to my local Ace hrdwr but they didnt have anything that would fit.
Dave,On your Pietta nipples,is it that the threads are to long or is it the cone? I was thinking maybe order one nipple of each and see which one fits.

The length of the threads doesn't matter; the important dimension is the distance between the tip of the cone and the surface of the nipple that seats on the cylinder. This is usually approximated by matching the cone height, although some nipples are a bit thicker between the base of the cone and the seating surface.

Welcome Todd!!! :)

Is it possible for you to measure the threads and go from there? TOW, I'm not familiar with the Treso, has all the threading for their nipples on their site.

Here:

You have to find out what thread you have on your nipple but maybe give them a call also because they might say send it in and we'll get you a set. But they give you all the measurements you need on their web-site.

Whatever you decide, Good luck!!!

Thanks Crawdad,
I'm trying to find a metric thread pitch gauge, I had one but I guess someone needed it worse than I did!I can't find one local so I'll have to order one online.

If your gun works with the nipples that you have why mess with a good thing, if I have a cap and ball revolver that doesn't jam or misfire ( I have a couple ) I save the time and effort for those that have problems (most of them).
