Installed a new barrel from Storm Lake. The slide needs to be jiggled front to back to get it to unlock and needs to run up from slide lock to lock. Am I correct in assuming that the front corner of the lower lug needs to be filed down or am I missing something?

Did you fit the barrel hood to the slide?

In other words, does it go into battery in the slide with just a very slight resistence when you seat the barrel in the slide with it off the gun??

If you don't understand this, you need to do one of two things:
Either get the Jerry Kuhnhausen shop manual, or pay someone else to do it. Paying someone else now will keep you from having to buy another barrel later.

This is far too intricate of a process to describe properly here.

There are entire classes taught just on barrel fitting.

On further review I forgot to put a feeler on the hood sides. I just filed until it fit forgetting that it need .005" play on either side. That fixed it. It must have had a small burr or something also.

I put a "drop in" Storm Lake 9MM barrel in a Colt .38 Super. It wasn't exactly drop in. I hope I got it right. I believe so, but time will tell. Shoots great.

I am glad it was only a slight filing to get it to work for you.

Even the experts would have trouble doing it in a forum from afar.
