I have a Kimber Pro Carry II 4" that I would like to have "bobbed". Does anyone know a smith in the Dallas area they could recommend?

Maybe I didn't use the correct nomenclature. What I want is the butt rounded off, so it doesn't dig in my side when carried, and is a little better concealed.

Also would like to know of a good 1911 smith, in case one is needed.

I think maybe the word you're looking for is "bobcat". When I hear " bobbed" I tend to think you want to remove part of the hammer spur.

Sorry but don't know of any gunsmiths in the Dallas area.

Im about to do one myself. There is a pretty good youtube video on the subject.

Sorry, i do not know a good gunsmith.

Ken Crawley (www.crawleycustom.com) is in Kemp, just south of the DFW area.
I'm not certain that he does bobtail jobs, but I would be surprised if he didn't.
I do know that he is a very knowledgeable 1911-smith; he has worked on at least four of mine in the last ten years.
He does very good work, and delivers on time--he won't promise it next weekend and deliver it six months from now.
He's not a spring chicken, but in 1911 guys, this is not unusual. He's been doing this a while, and knows what he is doing.
If you frequent the Fort Worth gun shows, he probably still has a table there (it's been two-three years since I've been). I used to stop by the gun show, leave a 1911 with him, and come back and pick it up a month or two later (whenever he said it would be ready).
Every time he has worked on a 1911 for me, it has been perfect first time around. That is more than I can say for some others.
His prices are also reasonable. Not cheap, but a good value for the services received.
If you'd like to pm me for more details on the work performed for me, feel free.

Just to be clear, having your pistol bobtailed isn't just having the protruding frame "rounded". The entire frame corner is removed and contoured before a new MSH is fitted.

I was scrolling through the site and saw "Bob Job" in passing. I had to scroll back, and am happy that it is gun related. :)

I looked at a couple of utube videos, doesn't look too hard to do, but as this frame is alloy, not sure how I would color it, would be odd with a stainless housing, and the frame raw alloy, even polished. Could be time to do a coating on the frame, or whole gun.
