I got to shoot an emissary today. The one I fired was absolute garbage. Trigger was terrible, slide to frame fit was awful, the mags wouldnt drop free and had to be pushed extremely hard to seat and lastly out of 300 rds and 4 shooters its malfunctioned a whopping 18 times. They were all failure to go into battery or stovepipes about evenly split.

Trigger, fit, and non firing functions are the reasons I rarely buy online.

If the gun wasn’t bought online, then that’s on the buyer, except for the malfunctions.

I used to say the same but now days when any gun is hard to find, the big box stores can get things. Unfortunately they will let you peer through the glass at a gun, maybe even let you smell it but getting to fondle a gun at those places is not likely.

I'm not in the market for any mass produced guns at this stage, but I can imagine right now it would be hard to find a gun and actually get to see it without a trigger lock on it. When I picked up my last colt revolver I ordered online, I cocked the hammer and tested the trigger a couple times checking lock up and function and the store owners mouth dropped. He said "are you actually going to shoot that". I'm afraid that's where most gun buyers are at now.

I got a Sig Nightmare Carry several years ago. After less than 500 rounds, the MIM disconnector 'crumbled' and the gun went inop.

That's when I found out that the Sig warranty, while still in effect, only covered return shipping for the first year-this meant to get a $30 part (retail, not the crap Sig was using as OEM) was going to cost me ~$45. Politely escalated to a supervisor and was essentially told, 'Yep, take it or leave it.' I put in an EGW bar stock part for $20 and the gun now runs as it should. It's been completely reliable (other than this failure), extremely accurate and has a trigger (FPS and all) to die for. It's a keeper.

That said, you won't be pulling it out to show off the 'hidden craftsmanship' Sig is putting in their 1911's; here's a pic of the frame's deck and crumbled disconnector:

Unfortunately most major manufacturers have gone head first down the MIM hole and aren’t coming back. My S&W E-Series parts were bothering me enough to replace everything rather than waiting for failures.

About the time I got the pistol back from ACW, I came across the description of a mod one well regarded smith was performing to save wear on the disco. I took some measurements, grabbed my file, and hoped I wouldn’t be sending my slide off to be welded up. Not for those who don’t understand what’s going on so I’ll simply add a picture. @tarosean should be able to spot this one quickly.

Some of the parts replaced on my Smith.

The shiny white spot is staking, not what we’re focusing on here though. I opted for a C&S FCG in this one, and yeah, S&W isn’t overly dedicated to clean machining either (though not so bad as that Sig).

Wow I have to say this is actually the first I've heard this said about the Emissary! So far both in this thread & YouTube etc the only real negatives I've heard are about its cosmetics or style with the square trigger guard & rail etc. Thank you for sharing your experience. After finding the Colt Competition Plus model it has literally everything I want & around the same msrp I just can't find one for sale is the problem now. :)
