I just got this Rock Island a couple days ago. I have never shot a .45 before so I don't think I did too bad. Now I just need to have the sights adjusted. Sorry for the cell phone pic.
I'll tell you as much as I know about it...the serial number on the frame is in the 34,xxx region, which, from what I could find on serial production dates, puts it at about 1913 for being made. No government markings. The bluing is perfect, so I imagine it was refinished at some point. Not really a rare piece by any means I don't think, but I like having it. Didn't pay too much for it, either.
It's the commander on the left of the bottom group, yes? That's a lot of 5" guns and one lonely sub-gubmint model. Looks like the collection of someone who appreciates the fundamentals of the original design.
