Here's another favorite of mine. A pre-80 9mm Commander. This may sound like heresy to some, but I think the Commander is best in its original caliber - 9mm.

1917 Remington UMC. The grips on it when I bought it were WWII, so not original. I had a piece of Stellar Sea Cow rib bone (an extinct dugong-like critter native to Alaska, killed off by the Russians in the early days) which is denser than normal bone and yellowed like very old ivory from lying on an Aleutian beach for 200 years. I carved a set of stocks out of that bone and I like the way it looks.

They sure are sweet aren't they? My dad has had one since I could remember and I love it. I've only recently started to really take up interest in handguns and 1911's in particular and I'm amazed at how good the frame/slide fit is for how old it seems to be.
