1911 preference

I LOVE the Springfield Armory Loaded. In my experiance they've been reliable, accurate, and (imho) the Black Stainless is the best-looking gun around.
I've rented a bunch of 1911s and shot friend's guns, but never owned one. The SA Loaded is the one im saving my nickles for ;)

I bought a Colt about the same time my brother bought an STI last year. While the action on his felt smoother out of the box mine just gets better the more I shoot it. For me, there is nothing like a Colt. The most imitated, never quite duplicated. [/dons flame suit] :)

yeah.. i got a pretty good kimber. probably 5 years old now but i like it. good feel. good trigger (no mods) but its ugly IMO. i also never fired any other 1911 models but the kimber i got. I want an aluminum or stainless frame 1911 and something worth upgrading in the future.

looks like colt and springfield got the votes..

speaking of which, what would be some mods ya'll would do on ur 1911..

Les Baer.

My other guns dont get used. One serves HD and the other is my beater .22 converted shooter now.

I'm contemplating selling one of my 1911s for another Les Baer. Its addicting the accuracy you get. Maybe I just shoot it better since I expect it to group well... :D

HUMMMM
Well let's see here, lotta thoughts going on.
Best looking--VERY subjective, kinda like marrying a woman. Any 1911 of the old school without rails. Doing things to doll her up is another subject.
Sigs- for their out of the box performance.
Sti-for their craftsmanship, tolerances, construction and options.
Walther-pure and simple old school charm and reliability.
Blessings

I am liking my Colt Special Combat Government. It has combat loose fitting in most places and still shoots 1" groups. Can't beat the hard chrome finish either.

As no one makes the pistol I want out of the box, I prefer the Springfield GI and NRM Colts. Then I can do what I want to them.

With NRM's costing $720 and GI's costing $400 locally, I lean towards the GI.

I have consistently bad experiences with Springfield and Kimber. I have had several of each, and only have one Springfield I would call reliable, and have not had a Kimber I would call reliable.

Customer service from both companies was unhelpful and could not fix the guns, despite trips back the factory.

I have had good luck with Colt and Smith and Wesson 1911s.

Smith & Wesson

I used to favor Colt's 1911s... but along with other brands they consumed a lot of bucks before they could be made suitable for carry... usually about as much 'smithing work as the gun cost.

Then S&W came out with thier 1911s... and they are the first 1911 type guns that I have found to be ready to carry out of the box... and the light weight of their scandium frame 1911 Commander size gun is a blessing for my old back.

So S&W is my new fav.

1911s I don't want: The ones with an extra firing pin safety!

The ones I do:

Anything from Texas, and not from Texas: Les Baer, Ed Brown, Nowlin & etc.

I like commander size and CCO size most especially. So right now, my wants are much bigger than my wallet. Can anyone else identify with this? :)

1st, 2nd & 3rd...

Colt - Rock Solid and Great Shooter... can be a little pricey froom time to time...

Springfield - Great out-of-the-box characteristics and a Great Shooter / Great Value combination.

STI - Great Shooter, a little pricey, but a Great Piece to be proud of!

I am with CXM on all counts.

tried alot and shot alot and owned more than a few
My fav is the Kimber Gold Match = most accurate semi auto pistol I have shot

GOTTA LOVE THE BLACK STAINLESS!!

Got my first 1911 for Christmas, a Springfield Black Stainless, only have about 300 rounds through it but I'm really impressed! :D

Is the search button broken, or does THR really get this many "which 1911" threads? *shrug* Maybe it's just the time of the year..:scrutiny:

+1 for the Springfield 1911A1 Champion Loaded. Parkerized finish.

Yes, there are at least 3 right now - that's why I stayed out of this one - I am in the others :p

For concelled carry my vote is the Kimber CDP Pro. Its a shoter and light weight. Four inch barrel still allows for decent ballistics. Straight out of the box with night sights and dehorned. I would like a full size all steel 1911 but haven't decided on which one yet.

Colt

I prefer a Colt, as all my 1911s have been Colts, until a recent purchase of a RIA. Then again, I just prefer Colt firearms, but prices make me shy away from some of them from time-to-time. If I didn't buy a Colt 1911 (leaving out the RIA because of it's cheap price and purpose of a "beater" gun), I'd prefer a Springfield and then maybe a S&W or Kimber. Missashot has a stainless S&W1911, and I really like that over most of the Kimbers that I've been exposed to. From what I've seen of the Kimbers, they don't seem worth the extra money to me.

I’d have to say that now after 2500 rounds, Les Baer. After break in, my Concept V has been flawless. The gun is very well put together, tight, and is scary accurate. My Gold Cup has now shifted to the back corner of the gun safe.

It’s my first non-Colt 1911 out of 6, and I’m now trying to figure out what I can hoc to get another one.
