As far as 1911s go, I have only ever owned a Rock Island "tactical" model. My son recently turned 21 and I gave this pistol to him. I had not done much to it other than put some VZ "alien" grips on it. I really liked this pistol and had picked it up on sale a few years ago for $399.00 brand new.

My question is...Same budget (under $500 anyway), any suggestions? Looking at a Shooters Arms Manufacturing "Elite". On sale for $399.00. I realize MA is another Philippine company. On the budget I have set, it appears my purchase will be either PI or Turkish.

Just looking for a decent quality, good shooting 1911 with a beavertail that meets my budget.

rock island is pretty good for that price range and you already like them so the answer is simple, just buy another

I have one of those Tisas from Bud's. It's great.

My stepbrother has an RIA. He loves it.

Win/win! :)

I like my 3 rocks and one Tisas equally well. If you go Tisas, Bud's is hard to beat. As I did, I would suggest paying the extra 20.00 for Bud's lifetime warranty. They cover shipping, are known to do good work and normally a quick turn around.

As RC said i purchased the Tisas from Buds i got the target model with upgraded sights and trigger. i purchased some houge black stocks to replace the plain smooth wood stocks that came on it. it is definitely worth the money and shoots well. I run it with GI mags and no hiccups.

Bull

I had a rock tactical and it was great. Money was tight and a good carry gun made more sense, so I sold it to get a shield. Now got around to being able to get another 1911. Planned to get another rock, but for not much money got a Remington R1. It's a whole different level for not all that much more money. The barrel to bushing fit is insane and it's a nicely finished gun.

Is go with another Rock Island or Taurus. I have a S.A.M. Commadore. Their warranty is crap and you can't get parts from them. I won't buy another but the price was good.

I have a ATI Commander made by SAM as well. It has better trigger, sight with beaver tail and bit better finish compares to my 2 RIA GIs! I bought all 3 of them when they had $50 rebate back in 2014 and came to $300 each after rebate.
