There's a person on another forum who wants to sell his used Remington 1911 which he says only has 200 rounds through it: "I have for sale a Remington R1 enhanced commander. Only has around 200 rounds through it." There are pics of the gun along with the case, it looks good to me, he's asking $600 for it.

Here's the gun:

The gun band new is like $900, so is this a good deal? Thanks for any opinions.

Seems reasonable if you feel the wear on the gun is in fact consistent with only having 200 rounds put through it, and you want a Remington.

If you sign up for a GunBroker account, you can Advance Search for Completed Auctions, and sort by Bids. You'll be looking at several months' open market price history; it's the best way I know of to see real-time value.

I was happy trading into a used Ruger 1911 Commander for ~$600, but that was during the banic. Plastic is cheaper now, but steel may not be.

Buds has them new for under $700, so it'd have to actually be in like new condition I think, else I'd try to go lower, $550 or so.

If it's really in good shape, it's a decent deal.

I have had 2 R1s, a plane R1 5" and a R1 enhanced double stack. Both were good shooters and reliable, though the finish on my R1 enhanced wore pretty quickly in a holster.

Still one of my favorite woods guns with 15 rounds of 255 grain hard cast on tap.

Do you have a pic of the actual gun ? looks like Remington uses the slide profile of the Government model and shortens the dust cover.

Great information, thank you! I'm not familiar with the Remington 1911s and what people think about them, that is, are they a good gun to begin with?

Yes, there are pics of the gun on the website, looks like it's in good shape. I'm thinking about offering him $500. If I can get a brand new one for $700, I'd think $500 is fair?

They're not $900 new, except maybe at Bass Pro, and then when in stainless. I have one in stainless I got two years ago for around $650 (factoring in a rebate at that time.) Now, the version I have runs about $700-750 at Bud's the last time I looked.

Five hundred should be a fair first offer. Much more than that, coupled with his shipping charges (charges you typically don't pay when buying new from a reputable dealer) will bring it too close to a new-gun price.
