:cuss: I have received as a gift, custom grips for my new Springfield 1911A1 Mil Spec .45. Since this my 1st 1911, I'm not familiar with grip removal. My question is...after removing the star slotted screws, how do I remove the remaining bushings? Is there a special tool and if so where can I get one ?
I know this seems very simple, but I like to do things correctly the FIRST time.
Many thanks !!!!!

The grips are still very tightly affixed. Am I doing something wrong, or missing an obvious step ?

You should just remove the four screws, remove the grips (leaving bushings in the frame, which should be tight) and install new grips. Unless, there is something non JMB going on here......

If you have the screws out, the grips are just stuck on the bushings. Reach in the magwell with a finger and you should be able to pop 'em off.

Many trhanks SigFan.....I guess I was just being a little "too careful" when trying to pry off the original wooden grips. After the 1st one came off, the other pushed out much easier.
Again, thank you !

Yeah, sometimes they get stuck. Some of the plastic or rubber grips, when they've gotten some oil under them, have to be pried off.
