The Army TM manual I have states the trigger pull should be between 5.5 to 6.5 pounds.
GI 1911A1 National Match guns were set at 3 1/2 in accordance with NRA Bullseye rules.

Except those intended to be used in the National Trophy Match and team sellection try-outs - so called "hardball matches." Here the trigger pulls were set at 4 to 4 1/2 pounds.

Of course you are right.
My memory is starting to fade along with any former pistol team glory it seems.
The 3 1/2 I mentioned was for softball, or centerfire guns.
4 pounds for Hardball guns.
