dsk, did I understand correctly that you don't know why 1911forum is still down?

Yes you understood correctly. LW McVay and the other mods have no clue either. But like what was said, this has happened before.

Members,

I apologize for the extended downtime. Unfortunately, I will be leaving my place of work and will be unable to continue to operate the forum. This is a very recent turn of events - I never intended for the site to be down past the weekend.

My goal is to find someone who can take over the forum and work with them to bring the site back online. I'll post updates here as I learn more.

Thank you all for your interest and participation over the last 5 years, particularly to those individuals and businesses who donated and supported the site. Your contributions helped tremendously and enabled me to always keep the forum running on the best equipment. I especially want to thank my fellow staff of moderators and administrators for your hard work and dedication to the site. Your efforst shaped the site into what it is today.

More updates to come...

-Jason

Too bad..hopefully it will resurrect itself...

afterall TFL did...

I saw that; it is a shame.

That was a fantastic board, full of useful stuff. Losing it made me look around, and so far I seem to be ending up here, but I do miss all the 1911 only threads.

This is a sad day indeed that the 1911 forums is in limbo. I had a funny feeling after it didn't come back up on monday and tuesday that there might be a bigger problem, I've seen this on other forums. Hopefully all will resolve with the forum salvaged. Thanks to all who ran and administered it, I learned a lot there and hopefully will again soon. It was one of three gun forums I frequent, may the other two, of course this is one of them, stay up and running.

The many quality members like yourself made it one of the best forums I've seen . :)

I can only echo what others have said. The best-mannered forum members of any internet forum on which I've ever spent time, and a true wealth of knowledge ...

I wonder what exactly is required of one to take over administrating the forum. Some bills to be paid? Need a server? That forum was my favorite place on the internet, and I would gladly pay to keep it up.

Yeah, and Seraph, guess you'll have to keep up the continuing chronicles of your Springers on this forum for the time being.

I just saw that too. I had assumed it was just more technical problems regarding the server. Truly unfortunate news.

Basically somebody has to either host a server, or pay for a separate host to run the site. That will require time and $$$ from whoever might be willing to step forward. And no, I'm slowly pulling out of the hobby anyway, so it can't be me.

Yes, very sad. I haven't talked w/ Jason about this, but suspect that he did, indeed, lose his host server. I know of at least one individual who is already actively trying to contact Jason, to see what it'd cost to buy the site and get it back up and running. I'd gladly donate to help keep it up. Also would like to say 'thanks' to Old Dog for the kind comments. I know I speak for all the mods over there, that we worked damned hard to keep that place running on an even keel over the years. Some may have found it too tightly moderated for their tastes, which is fine. Plenty of other places for them to go. Take care,

1911Forum is Dead?!?!?!?!?!?!??

NO WAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That is a complete friggin bummer :(

Like many have said, that was my favorite spot on the net as well....

Talk about a shot in the gut :( .

Many of us were "contributing ($) members", and would continue to be willing to be so, so hopefully costs wouldn't be a problem, but the dedication of time, systems administration and server availability are the real issues.
