1911s in 38 Super or 9mm: Experiences?

I love the .38 Super, and I have owned one for over a quarter of a century.

Were I in your shoes, I would probably go with 9mm, since ammunition availability is a concern, and the superior ballistic performance of the .38 Super is no advantage.

Both of my .38 Supers have 9mm barrels, by the way. They have been quite reliable as 9's, though I have mostly fired FMJ through them for practice.

If you do buy the 9, and then feel that you absolutely have to have the .38 Super, an extractor, barrel, and magazine change is really all that you need. The reverse works well also.

My favorite is the 9x23mm, which is ballistically superior to the .38 Super, but that is another story.
