hello everyone my name is Joe I am new to the group.I am looking at ebay item 320145799658 1918 trench knife. It will probably get pulled but can someone tell me if it's real or repro? Looks good to me but I have nothing to reference it with.
L.F.&C. too many fakes. Thanks for any help If it is a repro. what sets it off from the real one?

Welcome to THR!

Not to be flippant, but the price will give it away and the folks bidding on it. I say this because there are serious collectors and resellers who will pay more than you or I would risk without knowing the seller or enough about the knives to be certain if it's provenance.

Take a look at Knifeforums and see what they have to say about trench knives in the Military Knives forum.

Interesting, the seller pulled the item. Might be that it was a real one and somebody alerted the seller to the actual value of it.

pulled

Ebay may have pulled it as well because of their stupid policy. Anyway I am looking for one. The price was already over 400

Unless you have examined an original, and know what to look for, don't bet high dollars on these ebay auctions. The "Trench" knife has been made as replica since the 1970's, perhaps earlier. Those knives are at least 40 years old and are starting to look antique. Since anyone can buy an original and copy it, down to the last detail, it can be hard to tell new from old.

Thank you's

Thank you that's why I haven't bought one. There is one on Gunbroker.com That looks legit and the price is right. Scabbard is in really bad shape. Price is 300. And to the moderator you were not being Flippant. Any help I can get on this particular knife is alright with me. And also I would like to thank Frank Trazska for his Repro page on this knife. what I need to see are real next to repros with pictures. He did a fine job with 43 boyt sheath. JoKBB
