1965 Dodd Hearings leading up to the 1968 GCA

Some of you know I have been studying gun control laws for some time. I have been looking for the complete unedited proceedings of the Infamous (Thomas) "Dodd Hearings" which lead up to the 1968 Gun Control Act. I found it, all 867 pages!

https://bulk.resource.org/gao.gov/90-618/0000573D.pdf

I found especially fascinating was the testimony of Arthur J Sills who was the Attorney General of New Jersey. He was pretty much the architect and was the guiding force for the Firearms ID Card Law in New Jersey in 1966.

In fact Mr. Sills explains in these 1965 hearings his ideas for implementing the FID law for NJ. Sills' ideas for gun control are expressed to Thomas Dodd's Gun Control Hearings in 1965. And these hearings led up to the 1968 Gun Control Act.

(Some of you might know that NJ was the first state to implement an Firearms ID Card Scheme in 1966. Illinois started their ID card scheme in 1968 and Massachusetts some time after.)

If anyone was ever the least bit curious on how the 1968 Gun Control Act came together and was curious about who were the players, who said what, who was for gun control, who was against gun control, what was the political climate and why did things turn out like they did. Then this is must read, all 867 pages of it.

Unfortunately, the text is not crisp clear. In fact some pages are difficult or nearly impossible to comprehend and yet other pages are quite readable. Something this historic and important needs an entire retype.

That's a *very* low-resolution scan of a photocopy. It would probably be impossible to get a useful OCR on it. Retyping would be the only way.
