1981 unfired Nickle Python

It is amazing how the Python internals look positively crude compared to the inside of a SW. Not say they are but it just looks so basic inside.

The Python has a wonderful trigger if it stays in time. I sold my Nickel version as I just do not care for nickel guns, now had it been blue I would still have it,

Out of the box the Python has a much smoother DA trigger than the 686.

Although I love my S&W 686, I couldn't do without the lighter barrel of the Ruger Security-Six. If you examine the frames of both guns in the photo below, and consider that the Security-Six has a solid frame, you'll see that the last thing the Ruger needed was a beefing up! When I lift both of these guns, I prefer the Ruger, but there's no denying that the 686 has a much greater action and greater inherent accuracy than the Ruger. That said, if I had to carry one outdoors, it would be the Ruger. But I wouldn't own a GP-100. I would own a Python, however.
