Yea I've thought about that and looked into them. I have a MEC press I picked up used. I need two parts for it, so once I get that taken care of, I'll worry about getting a pad and getting some range time with the 870.

Aaaah ic ic lol now I can't wait to get back to the range, or similar to fire it again.

Luckily, the recoil was nothing as bad as I imagined (once I held the stock tight to my shoulder ), now granted I used the Fiocci Exacta since I couldn't use my target rounds (was at the rifle range, to just get a feel since I never fired a shotgun before ) now I'm eyeing getting into skeet/trap , if I like it, and get into it I'll be eyeing a Browning O/U. Always wanted a Browning and use it for skeet/trap, while the Mossberg serves as a fun gun, and defense, and stays by my bed.
Seeing what a 12 ga can do to a target with 9 pellet buck def gives a whole new meaning of respect. This sucker is brutal , and the Mossy kept a nice tight pattern for oh I estimate 50-60 yards Not sure if my cheapo rounds will do that tho.

Yea the power of a 12 ga is impressive. Imagine being on the wrong side of one. lets just say solid wood doors blow apart almost like balsa.

I'm not sure I'd pick a 12 ga as the only gun I'd own if I could only have one, but it's highly likely as they can do so much.

And yes skeet seems like it would be fun.

I would be very afraid of being on the wrong end of a 12 ga. These suckers are brutal. Esp with 00. However on the right side, these are fun! . I imagine they could blow a door to splinters, the report sound alone is just exhilarating. The only other gun I currently own is a Springfield 9mm. The 9 doesn't seem like it holds a candle to the 12. I have to admit I never really thought of or properly respected a shotgun. After firing the 590, and seeing what it can do to solid steel targets. I have a major respect for my shotgun. Have a major respect for shotguns in general. I didn't really believe at first if their power. I was pleasantly surprised.

There is no reason to use 3" shells for SD IMO. You lose control and recovery time. If you hit a bad guy with most of the pellets from a reduced recoil 2 3/4" he will swear he got hit with a 10 ga 3 1/2 in round.

Lol if I hit a bad guy with most of the pellets of a 2 3/4 even low recoil at SD distances, he won't be swearing at anything. He'd become Swiss cheese

I have some 3 in 00 15 pellet winchesters I bought out of curiosity. They're heavy af.

My first shotgun was a Mossberg 500 Persuader 12 ga. Pistol Grip Pump,I have since added an ATI pistol grip folding stock to it.. I now have three Pump's and one Semi Auto shotgun all 12 ga.

If the recoil is bothering you maybe consider getting something like a Limbsaver Slip-On Recoil Pad or else a P.A.S.T. Recoil Shield Shoulder Pad. I have used both products when shooting shotguns and both work very well at reducing felt recoil.

Thanks I’ll definately keep them in mind , actually the recoil was nothing as bad as I was expecting. Granted lol yes it does have more oomph than my 9, but other than that first shot that rattled the ##€£ out of my teeth because I didn’t hold it tight enough, it wasn’t bad at all .

First shotgun and first fire of any shotgun, I def quickly developed a respect for it.(don’t get me wrong, I respect ANY firearm, but this is def a new level ) Seeing what it can do to the side of the mountain and the targets I was shooting at from as far away as I was...... Oh and the sound, so much more satisfying with that BLAM, vs pop pop with the 9, .38, .223, 44 mag, and 40sw I’m more used to.

My first shotgun was a Remington Model 31 pump 20 gauge that my grandfather gave me in 1960 when I was 12 years old. He bought it at a Wisconsin DNR confiscation gun auction with 13 boxes of roll crimp shells. How much he paid, I do not know. As a grandfather now, I gave my 12 year old grandson a Remington Model 11-87 20 gauge 2 years ago, because I can remember how I felt getting my first shotgun. PS I gave my son a BPS 12 Gauge when he was 14 so I could get my Remington 870 Wingmaster back.

Why shoot 3" shells? You're launching Buck shot, not shooting geese.

I have an 870 among other SG's, and never put 3" shells through any of them. Regular 2 3/4" 00 buck through the 870 for HD. 2 3/4 field loads for pheasant (through a Benelli SuperNova - yes, collecting SG's can become an issue!). Also have a Browning Citori for skeet and sporties and reload 1200 fps 7/8 oz loads for clay games (a MEC 9000 reloader has made that more affordable). A limbsaver recoil pad (pre-fit, grind to fit or slip on) can make a big difference. No need to get beat up more than necessary.

A Browning BPS is a very well made shotgun that would serve you well in trap. A semi auto or over/under is a better choice for skeet or sporting clays as you need two quick shots sometimes (doubles in skeet for instance) and having to shuck a pump can put you at a bit of a disadvantage. Also, never overlook a used shotgun for any of these disciplines. It would be very difficult to wear out a BPS, 590, Citori, 870, etc.
