+/- 1 day, a year ago, I bought my first gun, a basic no-nonsense Marlin 60. It was a warm day, and I headed off to Outdoor America with the same friend who intro'd me to TFL and, eventually, THR. In the final moments of the decision-making, the two contestants were the Ruger 10/22 and the Marlin, the latter coming home with me because of its out-of-the-box accuracy over the 10/22.

So now, a year later, I thought I'd post a family portrait of my "collection," sans an M44 that was had only a short time before being traded. :( I'll get another one someday.

Anyhow...

From left to right in chronological order: Marlin 60, SAR-1, Winchester 1911SL, Mossberg 590 "Special Purpose," and the sporterized 1919 Swedish Mauser, purchased just this Monday.
(I know the pic's a little... rosy, but I blame that on being sleepy while touching up pics in Photoshop. :p )

And an old one of the SAR-1 just for the heck of it, back when I had painted the stock set black...

So far, all of the purchases I'd planned got cut short in favor of one of these (i. e., talking about getting an M1A but somehow getting a Mauser   )

Well, this is the Rifle Country, I'm sure that the handguns have their own topic in the appropriate forum :D .

A very nice selection to start with.

Why did you choose to put the sling stud on the magazine cap of the 590? It seems to me that if you were to carry it muzzle-up, it could swing and cover your shoulder with the muzzle. (my 590A1 has the sling stud installed on the bayonet lug)

The sling stud came with the Mossberg, and seein' as how that was the only place (AFAIK) to install it...

Not really something I worry about much, though; it's the go-to HD gun of the five and it's never worn a sling. (Probably won't for some time, either.)

Are there really bayonets for this gun? Where can I find one?

It uses any Ar15/M16 bayonet. M7's the old skinny style, M9's are the bigger, more beefy style but cost a lot more.

There should be a threaded hole on the bayonet lug that you can screw the sling stud into.

Nice start for your collection. The cut-down Swede looks interesting.

The Outdoor America Store is the ONE thing that was really great about my time in Oklahoma(I'm in the military). Great selection and friendly folks!

Dave

Thanks all! :)

Kharn- I'll check it out... I wonder what the pucker factor of that shottie will be with a big ol' blade at the end :D I'll probably take the stud off completely, as I don't really have much of a use for it.

C-5Driver- more info on that specific gun here if you're interested: http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=82437

The thing I find frustrating is that I can't find anywhere to plink. Heck, neither of my shotguns have ever been fired (well, the Winchester might've, but not since I bought it). I really wish I could see what that Mossberg's capable of doing to a tree stump or three. Maybe an old record player too... nothing quite like goin' to a thrift store to buy targets! :D

Ahhhh, but it's a slippery slope you're headed down my lad. There are so many guns out there and so little time. You'll be wanting to sell a kidney to buy "just one more" before you know it.

You got a good start there.
