i'm thinking of setting up my encore in a long range(400-500yards). the barrel will be 24 -26 inches and .850 inches wide(pro hunter). i have a 20 vartarg(16 1/4"long mgm barrel), a 223 rem in savage model 12 so i am looking for something different. it could be a 20 tactical, 20 classic, 20 ppc, 224 Texas Trophy hunter , 22-6mm rem ack imp, 22-243 middlestead, 20 grendal, 20 dasher, 22 dasher http://i55.photobucket.com/alb...l52/20Classic005.jpg
wildcats don't really bother me, a stroke gave me all the time i need i'm 40 years old and the right half of my body is about 15-20% good.
the encore lets me have one shot, (.2 and .3 at 100yds 6.5creedmoor 16 1/4", mgm barrel) so i don't think i a bit hampered.it will be groundhogs, foxes, coyotes, and informal target shooting at about 250 - 500 yards. i'll let you guys decide on a caliber, wildcat or standerd, and what size barrel!

Your 6.5 Creedmoor will do way better at 400-500 yards then any .20-.22 caliber you can possibly get.

The .264" bullets have much higher Sectional Density then the smaller bullets.

And there are more real good long range match bullets made for it that will buck wind far better then a .204" or .224" bullet.

I know not of what you speak??

'Making me sad" in what way?
Good or bad, or what??

Could you possibly be more specific as to why you think a .204" is a better 500 yard round then a .264" round??

You already have good calibers to reach out to 500 yards. Some of the other calibers you mentioned, such as the 22-243 with the right twist and VLD bullets would be good out to 1000 yards or even more.

Want something fun to play with out to 500 yards? 22 Hornet. That would be a challenge.

Myself, I've been curious as to how the 5.7 FN would be necked down to 17 caliber...
